Job Summary
The Department of Chemistry provides excellent undergraduate programs, as well as advanced instruction at the graduate and research levels. Reporting to the Departmental Administrator, the Chemistry Lab Technician (Stores) will work with and dispense chemicals in a chemical stores area and provide technical support for instructional activities in the undergraduate teaching laboratories.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and provide all necessary chemicals and chemical compounds for undergraduate teaching laboratories.
  • Manage and maintain all inventories for undergraduate labs in the Chemistry Stores facility.
  • Purchase compressed gases and manage inventories of the same in the Chemistry Stores facility.
  • Maintain dry goods stockroom, which includes purchase and ordering of laboratory supplies and glassware, transporting supplies, reconciliations, and inventory of the same.
  • Provide chemistry instructional and technical support to lab instructors.
  • Assist in coordinating storefront operation at Chemistry Stores facility and provide some direction to a part-time student assistant.
Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Chemistry with three years' related experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • WHMIS and IATA training.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite applications.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment that includes research and teaching faculty, undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Skills in multi-tasking and effective communications.
Assets
  • Demonstrated experience working with software inventory and point of sale systems.
