Reporting to the Executive Director for Health Services, the Director, in a co-leadership with the Department Head of Surgery, Department Head of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Department Head of Ophthalmology, Department Head of Urology, Department Head of Anesthesia, and Division Head for Gynecology Oncology., is responsible for operational planning, management and leadership of various specialized medical and surgical services to ensure care is integrated and reflects best practice evidence-based care. This includes ensuring these services/programs meet clinical, research and teaching mandates and comply with established standards and regulations. The Director has shared accountability for setting priorities and implementing strategies that support high quality, safe, cost-effective, evidence based, person-centred care. This includes the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of services while supporting effective and efficient patient access and flow, maintaining efficient and effective resource utilization, working in coordination with academic partners, patient/family satisfaction, and quality patient care that meets established standards and public expectations.
Working in a collaborative model with physician and zone operational leaders, this position enables and supports the ongoing and future delivery of fully integrated services at the site, zone, provincial and regional level. The Director for Periop/Pain/ works collaboratively with Senior Directors, Directors, Managers and the Redevelopment Team to support and plan for expanded service delivery. The Director ensures continuous improvement to advance a vision of academic excellence within the provision of care and is responsible for the development, maintenance and monitoring of quality management and safety programs, and compliance with relevant standards and accreditation requirements. The Director facilitates and champions a learning and research environment that aligns with the current and proposed future state of Nova Scotia Health.
