About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Director and working closely with the programs team, participates in the planning and development of modelling, standards and monitoring of virtual urgent and emergency care within NSHA.

Working in a collaborative model with physician, zone operational leaders and platform leaders, this position enables and supports the ongoing delivery of virtual urgent and emergency care in the province; contributes to the development of operational plans that support excellence in care delivery, improvement in health outcomes, and achievement of standards of care. ,

The Director ensures continuous improvement to advance a vision of excellence within the provision of virtual care and is responsible for the development, maintenance and monitoring of quality management and safety programs, and compliance with relevant standards and accreditation requirements. The Director facilitates and champions a learning and research environment that aligns with the current and proposed future state of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.

Role Accountabilities

Planning and Systems Design

  • Develops operational plans for virtual urgent and emergency care aligned with the strategic priorities of VUNS/VENS and the Executive Vice President's direction.
  • Identifies system-wide priorities to eliminate duplication, address gaps, and ensure safe, high-quality, and sustainable services across the continuum and lifespan.


Quality Service Delivery and System Performance

  • Fosters a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and creativity to enhance health outcomes and patient care quality.
  • Establishes performance measures, targets, and quality management systems to align with national accreditation standards and operational plans.


System Transformation and Engagement

  • Builds networks and partnerships to strengthen relationships, foster collaboration, and achieve program objectives.
  • Emphasizes patient and family involvement in service development and delivery, ensuring cultural competence and respect for diversity.


Financial Stewardship and Accountability

  • Practices sound financial management through accurate business planning, forecasting, and adherence to procurement guidelines.
  • Ensures fiscal accountability by aligning with NSHA's Accountability and Risk Management frameworks.


Visible Leadership, Partnership and Relationships

  • Provides accessible and visible leadership to inspire alignment with NSHA culture, mission, and values.
  • Leads transformational change by fostering accountability, continuous learning, and compliance with organizational standards.


Talent Management and Employee Engagement

  • Promotes a healthy, respectful workplace and ensures employees have the resources to perform effectively.
  • Supports employee development and growth by fostering a culture of continuous learning and achievement of professional goals.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Master's Degree in a health related discipline, health administration, business administration or related subject
  • Eligible for registration with relevant health discipline/college or association
  • Experience working in urgent or emergency services and virtual care models an asset
  • Experience in implementation science, evaluation matrices and project management an asset
  • Certified Health Executive designation an asset
  • Excellent leadership, relationship building, organizational and decision skills in support of patient, family and client centred services.
  • Expert knowledge to critically analyze clinical evidence-based practices to inform strategy development and organizational planning.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships and partnerships with stakeholders.
  • Evidence-based collaborative problem solving of complex multifaceted issues.
  • Understands the principles of project management and demonstrated ability to create and lead complex work teams.
  • Quality improvement methodologies.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills that are responsive to audience needs.
  • Demonstrated advanced communications skills/positive energetic public persona.
  • Collaboration, negotiation and persuasion skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and monitor quality and performance indicators and benchmarks.
  • Possesses a sound knowledge of management and a working knowledge of information systems.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation and Benefits

$48.1674 - $60.2090 hourly ($93,926 - $117,407 annually)
