About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Health Services Director the Health Services Manager is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership to multi-disciplinary teams within a patient-centred, Collaborative Practice Model for patient care units within Nova Scotia Health (Central Zone) consisting of Inpatient Services - and the NSWOC Team (Nurse specialists - Wound, Ostomy and Continence)

Working collaboratively and consultatively with patients/clients, families, management, staff, physicians, community partners, and service providers, the Manager applies strategic and analytical thinking to address challenges to achieve the ultimate goal of high-quality, safe and cost-effective services to better support patient experience/outcome.

The Manager exhibits sound professional judgment and initiative while working within the framework and objectives of the Health Services Programs and the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions of Nova Scotia Health. The manager incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of Nova Scotia Health.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership and direction for VG 9A Surgical Gastroenterology/General Surgery inpatient unit & NSWOC Team (Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence) to ensure the goals and objectives are continually met
  • Promoting and emphasizing people-centered care in partnership with the patient, family, and health care team
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining an active human resource plan including recruitment, selection, interviewing, and hiring
  • Preparing and analyzing all relevant financial and clinical data, reports trends and identifies where corrective action is required for budget variances, implements changes as required, and evaluates the effectiveness of the changes
  • Establishing and maintaining creative and efficient communication processes across clinical teams, geographically different sites, other disciplines, and other stakeholders within NSH as required
  • Managing process improvements for quality patient care and enhancing capacity
  • Representing their discipline or service/program by active and effective participation in meetings and on committee
  • Providing strategic and operational leadership that supports service delivery excellence and collaboration with other program areas.
  • Monitoring clinical service delivery on a day-to-day basis to endure service provision is following Nova Scotia Heath polici and procedures and is compliant with evidence-based practice, provincial standards and accreditation requirements

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or equivalent health-related degree
  • Master's degree an asset
  • Current registered with NSCN or equivalent health-related regulatory body
  • Minimum Five years of recent experience in a leadership and/or management position with responsibilities related to program planning, evaluation, human resources and financial management within a unionized environment.
  • Previous leadership/management experience an asset
  • Experience and expertise in process planning and redesign work
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of issues and trends impacting the publicly funded healthcare system, nationally and internationally
  • Requires a high level of sound judgment, initiative, and self-direction
  • Demonstrates high degrees of independent decision making, motivation, creativity, flexibility, adaptability, and change management knowledge
  • Proven and highly developed leadership skills including vision, self-awareness, relationship and team building skills, and communication skills
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the various professional scopes of practice
  • Demonstrates knowledge of healthcare structures, environments and services
  • Demonstrates experience in a managing in a unionized environment
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, problem-solving and skills
  • Demonstrates ability to manage human resources/intellectual capital, financial resources, capital/material assets and information.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Short assignment full-time position; 75 hours biweekly

Compensation and Benefits

$45.45 - $60.39 Hourly
