About the Opportunity

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisory Technologist, the incumbent prepares and performs diagnostic screening of gynaecological and non-gynaecological specimens, using appropriate methodologies and quality assurance techniques including computer verification. Additional related duties in keeping with expanded Cytology competencies may be required. Stressful working conditions require the Medical Laboratory Technologist to be tactful, sensitive and able to communicate effectively and professionally. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times as deemed essential by the Medical Laboratory Technologist Code of Conduct.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Must be a graduate from an approved course in Cytotechnology (MLT Cytology)
  • Must be licensed with the NSCMLT and registered with CSMLS
  • Experience in Gynaecological and non-Gynaecological Cytology is required
  • Candidate must be able to demonstrate maintenance of screening competencies if not practicing within last 6 months
  • Computer Experience (LIS) preferred
  • Good judgement, accuracy and precision required; excellent trouble-shooting skills essential
  • Considerable mental and visual acuity required in matching patient's specimens with requisitions, in recording patient information and in problem solving
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment with occasional exposure to chemicals, noxious fumes and odours
  • Effective communication skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours

  • Permanent, Full-Time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Shift work required including weekends & holidays

Compensation and Benefits

$30.83 - $37.54 hourly
