The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team facilitates and advances person-centered care through evidence-based professional practice and learning strategies and programs that are designed provincially and implemented locally to enhance collaborative learning and practice. The Interprofessional Practice and Learning team takes a leadership role in creating a culture of collaboration with a focus on team-based care, evidence-informed practice, and learning and professional development to improve health outcomes for patients, families and communities. Through strong partnerships with the academic sector, regulators, and government, the Interprofessional Practice and Learning team has an integral role in influencing and operationalizing health system priorities.

About the Opportunity

The Nurse Practitioner Clinical Educator (NPCE) is accountable to promote clinical expertise through the development and provision of education, practice guidance and supports that focus on optimal patient care within full scope NP roles. The prime focus of the NPCE is to build expertise across the points of care by developing, implementing and evaluating education and support strategies to assist NPs with translation of known and new knowledge into evidence-based clinical practice. The NPCE prioritizes commitment to NP recruitment and retention, recognizing opportunities for improvements and innovation in support of NP education and practice. This is conducted at an individual, team, and systems level. Within IPPL and other teams/leadership frameworks to explore/create enhancements. Working collaboratively with leadership, nursing and all interprofessional health disciplines, the NPCE has demonstrated expertise in NP clinical practice, as well as competency as a consultant, researcher, facilitator, change agent, and leader.

The NPCE practices in alignment with the Nova Scotia Nurses Act (2019), and the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) Standards of Practice for both Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners, and the NP Practice Guideline. The NPCE demonstrates competency in practice, program design and implementation, monitoring and evaluation of education, leadership, and professional practice. The NPCE fosters a culture of learning to support safe care delivery and advance professional practice through the development and implementation of transition-to-practice programs, and professional development that integrates a learner-centred approach. The NPCE is responsible for developing, planning, executing, and evaluating learning experiences, and for engaging appropriate leaders/supports if the NPCE identifies educational or practice needs requiring this additional support. The NPCE works collaboratively to support patient care teams at site, zonal, and provincial levels.


This is a provincial position and can be aligned with any clinical sites within the province. Travel will be required; a valid driver's license and access to transportation are necessary.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Master of Nursing - Nurse Practitioner Stream required
  • Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner (in good standing) with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing required
  • Minimum three years' full-time Nurse Practitioner experience within the last five years required
  • BLS-C (HCP) certification required
  • Diploma or certificate in adult education or equivalent an asset (willing to obtain, if required)
  • Evidence of adult education theory application in the last year
  • Leadership Development Education an asset or a willingness to complete
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with key partners
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills in varied contexts
  • Previous teaching experience which involves designing, implementing, and evaluating both traditional and non-traditional methods of instruction preferred
  • Recent professional development relevant to maintaining currency in clinical practice and education
  • Experience with group facilitation preferred
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of program development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Demonstrated initiative and innovative problem solving
  • Skilled in the facilitation of concept-based learning, collaborative learning, and practice development
  • Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in EMR supports (MedAccess or Accuro)
  • Physical demands - setting up rooms, walking and standing, movement of educational resources and tools with facilities and across sites
  • A valid driver's license and access to transportation are required
