About the Opportunity

Under the supervision of the Tissue Bank Specialists and reporting to the Health Services Manager, Regional Tissue Bank, the Tissue Bank Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of the Regional Tissue Bank in relation to tissue processing, storage, distribution, information management, quality assurance, and quality control. The Tissue Bank Assistant assists with the procurement and preservation of human allograft tissues and is required to be on call as support to the tissue retrieval team.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Grade 12 plus a two-year post-secondary program in Health Sciences or diploma in a related field
  • Minimum one-year related experience
    • Where there are no candidates with previous related experience, consideration may be given to those willing to complete the in-house Tissue Bank Assistant program as a Tissue Bank Assistant in Training (developmental role)
  • Completion of the in-house Tissue Bank Assistant training program is considered an asset
  • Previous Tissue Bank experience/training preferred
  • Certification in Transportation of Dangerous Goods by Ground and Air
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, microbiology, sterilization procedures and maintenance and equipment
  • Related experience in a laboratory or surgical environment is preferred
  • Basic knowledge of surgical procedures would be an asset
  • The ability to assist with surgical retrieval of human cadaveric allograft tissues/organs and to learn the techniques is required
  • Knowledge and ability to demonstrate and understand the principles and practice of aseptic technique
  • Knowledge of the organization, functions and policies of hospital departments as related to Transplantation
  • Self-motivated, demonstrated good judgement, effective communicator with good interpersonal abilities
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred


A skills test will be included as part of the selection process.

Hours

  • Permanent full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly

Compensation and Benefits

$23.45 - $26.21 Hourly
