Job Summary
The Cape Breton Medical Campus is one of three sites of Dalhousie's University Faculty of Medicine, with accreditation as a single medical school. Under the supervision of the Human Donation Program manager, the Anatomy Laboratory Technician is responsible for the technical support for the teaching laboratories and other resources at the Cape Breton Medical Campus.
Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and take down of gross anatomy labs and clinical simulation labs, attending and assisting in prelab demonstrations, with help of the Anatomist. Sets up full bodies, prosections, brain material, and technical equipment.
  • Follows Human Donation Program policies to ensure correct numbering and storage of anatomical materials.
  • Maintains a catalogue of all anatomical specimens and consults with Manager, Human Donation Program, concerning needs.
  • Performs regular maintenance, organization and cleanliness of labs and lab equipment, as required. Assesses requirements for upgrades and/or repairs of equipment.
  • Acquires understanding of Human Donation Program at Dalhousie University and commits to strong relationship between Cape Breton Medical Campus and Human Donation Program.
Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
  • Two years' experience working in death care industry or anatomy lab setting (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to work with students and faculty, as well as ability to function as part of the team that supports gross anatomy teaching.
Assets
  • Good computer skills.
  • Willingness to take anatomy courses to improve dissecting, prosecting skills, etc., and gain a better understanding of the programs offered.
