Reporting to the Provincial Privacy Manager - Access & Disclosure, the Health Records Technician - Access and Disclosure is responsible for facilitating access by patients to their personal health information held by Nova Scotia Health. They provide assistance and guidance to patients and families with completing the requisite forms and paying fees in order to obtain copies of medical records.
The Health Records Technician also processes requests and releases information for third parties including, but not limited to: law firms, law enforcement agencies, insurance companies, Workers Compensation Boards, licensing bodies such as the College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Department of Community Services, and other third parties following the guidelines for access to personal health information as set forth in the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) and NSH policies.
The Health Records Technician accepts and processes subpoenas, court orders, and production orders and attends court as an agent of NSH to provide medical records for trials and hearings when subpoenaed.
The Health Records Technician collects payments for Access to Personal Health Information, provides estimates for the production of medical records, and generates billing for the same for the Finance Department

$29.44 - $31.57 Hourly
