FIREFLY is seeking a full time Intake Worker to join our team in any of our FIREFLY locations! FIREFLY is the central access point for Ministry-funded voluntary programs for children aged 0-18 years and their families in the Kenora and Rainy River districts.


The Intake Worker will complete a family-centered intake process, including applicable screening tools, and will inform the family of the continuum of services/resources that may be available to assist them. The Intake staff will obtain informed consent and, together with the client and their family, will facilitate referral(s) to appropriate services/programs based on the child/family’s identified goals, strengths and needs.


The Intake staff member will assist children and their families in accessing these selected resources/services in their community and will be knowledgeable about the current availability of all services for children across the Kenora and Rainy River Districts.


Key Job Functions:

  • Answer the centralized Intake phone line, receive referrals to Centralized Intake and monitor Intake email, as needed.
  • Ensure facilitation of referrals through all referral pathways
  • Facilitate access to children's services by providing general information to children, families, and service partners and by receiving incoming referrals for regional voluntary children’s services
  • Inform families about all agency and community support services within the Kenora and Rainy River District that may benefit them in achieving their goals and assist the family in determining which services will be selected
  • Process incoming referrals in a client-centered manner
  • Application of the screening tools
  • Prepare intake documentation in order to disposition to ongoing services
  • Attend meetings and training as required.
  • Identify interim supports available to assist children/families during any waiting period. Disposition to additional services if required.
  • Ensure high standards of professional conduct and quality of care
  • Contribute to small projects as required


Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Human Services is preferred; however, Social Services Diploma combined with several years of experience would also be considered.
  • Extensive knowledge of overall child/youth development, health and well-being with respect to physical, mental, social, behavioural, psychological and medical factors
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines
  • Advanced knowledge of available local and regional children’s services and resources across the Kenora and Rainy River Districts
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Word processing and database management skills
  • Knowledge of relevant governing legislations and regulations
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of and ability to leverage a variety of technological systems

  • Shifts may vary according to service demands, some evening and weekend work may be required
  • Willing and able to provide vacation coverage
