Description

We are seeking a committed Registered Early Childhood Educator with a passion for interacting with young children and working within a team environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to all requirements of a RECE as determined by The College of Early Childhood Educators and the CCEYA
  • Nurture each child to grow spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, and physically
  • Promote a sense of belonging, a sense of well-being, the opportunity to engage in learning and the opportunity for each child to express him or herself
  • Treat each child with Love, Dignity and Respect
  • Understand and comply with provincial, municipal and The Salvation Army Policies, Procedures and Standards
  • Adheres to work schedule to ensure program stays within ratio and provides required adequate notice to supervisor regarding unexpected scheduling changes
  • Plan and implement a consistent child-centred program in accordance with "How Does Learning Happen"
  • Provide high quality experiences based on the children's interests
  • Provide within the environment various areas where children can explore, play happily and safely, ask questions and where hands on learning can take place with the involvement and support of the Educator
  • Carry out all daily routines following the center's policies & procedures
  • Maintain positive communication with parents through daily contact & our app
  • Ability to work within a team and be part of a large multi-service, Christian charitable Organization
  • Support Educational Assistants in their understanding developmentally appropriate practice, observation techniques, planning and implementing activities, documenting play and corresponding with parents
  • Coach, guide, evaluate and mentor field placement students
  • Attends staff meetings, required training and all other relevant professional development opportunities necessary for the position. Maintains qualifications and certifications as required by the provincial standards.
  • Participate in parent nights and special events such as Christmas concerts, fundraising, field trips, Church programs, etc.

Perform other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a relief position with no standard weekly hours of work
  • There are no guaranteed hours and work will be offered on an as needed basis
  • Flexibility regarding assigned working hours Monday to Friday, able to work split shifts, early morning and mid-late afternoons
  • Ability to use frequent light to medium physical effort: lifting up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), bending and stooping
  • Must be able to work outdoors for at least 2 hours daily year-round; may be exposed to heat, humidity or cold

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • ECE Diploma
  • Registered with the College of ECE in good standing
  • CYW or CYC Diploma, acceptable
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Updated Medical completed
  • Standard First Aid & Level C CPR
  • Food Handlers Certificate an asset
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Preference would be given to those who have previous experience working in a Child Care or working with groups of children
  • Knowledge of Raising the Bar an asset
  • Knows and complies with the Child Care and Early Years Act and How Does Learning Happen

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Excellent oral & written communication skills required to work with children, parents and other staff
  • Complete all on-line Salvation Army courses
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
