The S&T Laboratory Operations Branch provides project services and operational support to the Nuclear Facilities and Laboratories at Chalk River Laboratories (CRL). Both the Nuclear Facilities and the Laboratories must comply with external acts, regulations and CNL's Compliance Programs as outlined in the Site Licenses for CRL. Developing and maintaining this framework in a manner appropriate for R&D work is very important from the perspective of improving safe operation and is a major activity for the S&T Laboratory Operations Branch.This is a very exciting opportunity for a young engineer/scientist, and we look forward to working with the student hired as they grow their skills in our branch.

Duration: 4-8 months (May- August with possible extension to December)
Field of Study: Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing.
Year of study: 1st and 2nd year of studies

What you will be doing:

• Assisting in verification process for S&T asset management program.
• Assisting in the verification process for S&T preventive maintenance program.
• Assisting in managing projects related to renovations/upgrades or minor capital equipment projects.
• Interacting with other organizations (purchasing, Engineering, Radiation Protection, Industrial.
• Other duties as required.

What we are looking for:

• Education
  • Applicant is currently enrolled in their 1st or 2nd year of study towards a Bachelor (Honours) or equivalent in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing.
• Experience
  • Must have experience with technical writing.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • The ability to read and comprehend technical documents and drawings and understand mechanical, electrical, and nuclear systems.
  • Must have initiative, a tactful and diplomatic manner, sound judgement and organizational abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."
