Reporting to the Executive Director (ED) and the Medical Lead for Queen’s Student Wellness Services, the staff physician provides comprehensive health care services to all Queen’s University students including medical and mental health services that help to optimize their physical and emotional health and wellbeing. Care is comprehensive, sensitive and collaborative, and fosters an environment where students feel safe to share their personal health concerns. This position is posted as a full time, 3-year term, but may also be eligible for job sharing work hours if required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide ongoing primary health care for patients with a focus on developing excellent therapeutic relationships
• Commit to providing care for the spectrum of common illnesses and issues in the 18-25 year old demographic. Examples include but are not limited to common acute illnesses, prescribing birth control, inserting IUDs, assessing mental health concerns for diagnosis and possible need for medication, ADHD assessment and treatment, gender care for all identities including LGBTQ+ etc.
• Deliver crisis intervention/support to patients in need, collaborating with campus and/or community resources as required
• Document and bill each clinical encounter according to CPSO guidelines and within 5 business days of the encounter date
• Commitment to clinical schedules that meet the student demand, including the possibility of working outside business hours
• Practice medicine in accordance with established CPSO and CMPA practice guidelines, as well as PHIPA regulations
• Demonstrate appropriate medical leadership in the areas of primary care, disease prevention, and continuing primary care medical education
• Maintain and augment professional skills necessary to support patient population’s needs through ongoing professional development and continuing medical education programs
• Advise, consult, and assist the Executive Director and Lead Physician in areas of staff education, pharmaceuticals, program development, and implementation of long-range policies for Student Wellness Services as needed
• Participate in clinic-based research projects
• Take an active role in team-building between all staff members within the clinic, contributing to staff morale and support of all allied health professionals
• Observe all Wellness Services policies and procedures with respect to problem resolution

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• M.D and eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario
• Member in good standing of the Ontario Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons (CPSO).
• Canadian Medical Protective Association malpractice insurance (CMPA).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• CCFP, FRCPC or FRCSC
• Experience in clinical medicine (family practice, emergency medicine, adolescent medicine).

SPECIAL SKILLS:
• Experience in Family Practice and/or Emergency Medicine
• Medical practice management experience
• Expert verbal and written communication skills
• Willingness to embrace new technologies e.g. EMR and virtual appointment applications
• Willingness to help students in person and remotely via phone or video conference when appropriate
• Experience with dispute resolution, excellent decision making and critical thinking skills
• Experience with care of adolescents and young adults
• Excellent interviewing and counselling skills
• Basic computer knowledge, knowledge of EMRs and remote medicine delivery

DECISION MAKING:
• Medical care and treatment of patients is the responsibility of the physician
• Crisis intervention and mental health support is the responsibility of the physician
• Documentation and billing of clinical encounters are the responsibility of the physician
