Description

The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the Kingston Citadel Community and Family Services Christmas Hamper and Toy Mountain campaigns during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accountabilities:

  • Assist with registering applicates into database system
  • Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of toys and food for the Christmas program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution
  • Assist with event planning, event set up and supply purchases
  • Attend special events as required
  • Assist with pick-ups of food and donations from community donors using program vehicle
  • Assist with set up and take down of toy and/or food Christmas hamper distribution centre
  • Record statistical data in a clear, organized and accurate manner
  • Attend and complete meeting minutes
  • Respond to telephone calls and written correspondence
  • Complete applications with applicants

Perform other position related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a Seasonal Full-time position based on up to 44 hours per week.
  • Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required as hours may increase as per the Christmas Kettle Campaign operational requirements.
  • Ability to lift/move 20 lbs. (11.34kg) in a safe manner
  • Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
  • Local travel is associated with this position

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completion of high school
  • Related experience is an asset

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset
  • Strong skills in all Microsoft Office products and good working knowledge and experience with email and internet-based programs
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver's abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required

  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
