As a Dietitian (Status: Full-Time, Start date: Immediately; Location: North Bay, Kirkland Lake or Haileybury; Position will service all locations; Hybrid model of work applies to perform in-person patient visits, work remotely and from the office when required), you are responsible for the provision of dietetic and nutritional services to patients in order to optimize nutritional intake, promote overall health and well-being, and individualized food plans to meet specific nutritional, dietary, and/or functional needs.

What will you do?

  • Respond to referrals from Care Coordinators to properly administer nutritional and dietetic services to patients.
  • Assess patients to identify their nutritional needs and determine patient-centered treatment goals.
  • Provide treatment/nutritional care program and develop resources to address patient dietary needs and work towards achieving therapeutic goals.
  • Oversee patient progress and adjust treatment programs when needed, to ensure nutrition goals are addressed.
  • Educate and counsel patients, their families, caregivers, and/or SDMs, regarding nutritional conditions/diseases, patient issues/concerns, and dietary strategies to improve function, compensate for difficulties, and promote nutritional health.
  • Manage service deliveries in conjunction with the Care Coordinator, their families, caregivers, and/or SDMs using all available forms of communication.
  • Link patients with other in-house services or outside organizations.
  • Balance patient needs and choices with available resources, ensuring patients’ values and preferences are respected.

Accurately document and chart patient’s assessment results, goals, treatment plans, and interventions.

What must you have?

  • Registered Dietitian in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario (CDO).
  • Relevant experience providing nutrition and dietetic services in a community/health care environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of dietetic services, practice methods, professional skills, nutrition principles and strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to manage service delivery in conjunction with Care Coordinators, patients, their family members/caregivers, and other health care professionals.
  • Good understanding of the roles of other health care professionals and complementary therapies.
  • Knowledge of funding agencies available to assist patients in accessing needed support services and other community resources, treatment centers, and organizations.
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of pertinent legislation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the standards of practice and professional guidelines set forth by CDO.
  • Ability to prioritize professional duties and manage caseload in a time efficient manner.
  • Ability to accurately complete required documentation, reports, forms, and recommendations.
  • Effective listening, observation, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to communicate information effectively through a variety of means including meetings, reports, letters, and presentations.
  • Working knowledge of computer software (email, internet) and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
  • Must have valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle, as regular travel within the Nipissing and Temiskaming District will be required.
  • Advanced oral and written proficiency in English is essential.
  • We have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy. As a condition of employment, all employees are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination status prior to start date.

What would give you the edge?

  • Experience working with diverse patient groups, e.g., multicultural, homeless, palliative, acquired brain injury (ABI), mental health, geriatrics, pediatrics
  • Experience with management of wound care, post operative GI surgeries, motivational interviewing, diabetes, oncology, gut health, food insecurity, and chronic disease management
  • Case management experience or recent related community experience
  • Ability to speak French or another second language
