Working to full scope supported by multiple medical directives, the Registered Nurse is part of an interdisciplinary care team of Physicians and Nurse Practitioners and external community partners. The clinical team is predominantly an outreach mobile team that works in several highly populated areas of the city with individuals that are underhoused or marginally housed who have experienced barriers to traditional medical and social supports. This team is supported by Social Workers, Outreach Workers, Community Developers and support staff specializing in the areas of Mental Health, Poverty & Homelessness, and Diabetes & Chronic Diseases while out in the community.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Postsecondary diploma (RN) or degree (BScN) from a recognized college or university
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in a community setting or a combination of community and hospital/public health
  • Awareness and understanding of the social determinants of health and health promotion
  • Ability to practice from social justice, trauma and violence informed care, and harm reduction frameworks
  • Clinical knowledge of mental health care, substance use, concurrent disorders, dual diagnoses, and application of current best practices, assessments and interventions
  • Demonstrated effective crisis prevention, intervention and stabilization skills
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds with an inclusive and anti-oppressive lens
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills, including the use of Office 365 products and Electronic Medical Records (Telus Practice Solutions Suite currently in use)

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience in mental health care and working with people experiencing substance use disorders and homelessness
  • Demonstrated phlebotomy skills
  • French and other language skills are considered an asset in supporting the communities we serve
