Job Summary

Reporting to the Community Program Coordinator, Individual Conditioning/Personal Training, the Community Program Supervisor-Individual Conditioning/Personal Training will work as part of a City of Markham Fitness Strategy team that is responsible for the delivery of all Fitness programs and services within all City of Markham Fitness Centers. This position will mentor, support, motivate and provide guidance on performance management of all Individual Conditioning and Personal Training staff within the Centers while maintaining positive relationships with fellow area staff, residents, community groups and clients. The Community Program Supervisor - Individual Conditioning/Personal Training will be a frontline Subject Matter Support to all Fitness Counsellors, Individual Conditioning staff, Personal Trainers, and Group Fitness Instructors

Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing administration and supervision for programs and services within the Individual Conditioning/Personal Training portfolio within the City of Markham Recreation Department
  • Assist in the development and implementation of an annual Training Plan
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training scheduling and performance management of full time and part-time staff and volunteers
  • Payroll and managing performance of part-time and full-time staff.
  • Plan and implement new and innovative programs and strategies that reflect and respond to industry trends, community needs, and changing environments
  • Assist with the development and ongoing monitoring of operating budgets including identification of capital budget needs.
  • Willingness to lead by example and conduct New Member Orientation appointments and teach a variety of Group Fitness Classes
  • Ensuring an environment of customer service excellence exists when dealing with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with the preparation and presentation of promotional materials.
  • Conduct regular customer satisfaction surveys
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Post secondary education (College diploma or University degree) in Recreation, Kinesiology, Physical and Health Education or appropriate discipline.
  • Minimum three years full-time supervisory experience in a fitness center setting with direct experience in Individual Conditioning and Personal Training.
  • Personal Training Certification Required
  • Ability to teach a variety of Group Fitness Classes an asset
  • Current certifications in Standard First Aid and CPR.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence
  • Proficiency in MS office, experience with XplorRec an asset
  • Satisfactory VSS
