Extendicare is seeking a dynamic Human Resources Business Partner to serve as the key HR contact, offering guidance and solutions to business leaders within a specific region while supporting various departments. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with the HR team to deliver a comprehensive range of HR services to their assigned client groups, covering areas such as employee relations, performance management, compensation, benefits, HR policy, and metrics/reporting.

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for both remote and in-office work. In-office duties will predominantly center around visits to district offices and meetings at our Head Office located in Markham, Ontario.

This is a 14-month contract opportunity.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized and strategic HR guidance to business leaders in resolving employee and labor relations issues.

  • Collaborate effectively with business and union partners to address cross-functional tasks and resolve people-related matters, such as grievances and inquiries/disputes from the Ministry of Labor (MOL).

  • Partner with HR leadership and client groups to understand operational needs, gather feedback for program design, and develop tailored HR solutions.

  • Lead employee incident reviews and investigations in coordination with business leaders to ensure consistent process adherence and thorough due diligence.

  • Offer expert advice on workplace policies and procedures, and appropriately disseminate knowledge on relevant provincial legislation.

  • Facilitate the implementation, interpretation and application of company policies, collective agreements, projects and programs.

  • Deliver key projects aligned with business priorities, including conducting root cause analyses, implementing changes, and managing communication and change processes.

  • Collaborate with peers and key stakeholders to foster innovative thinking and drive the development of new ideas and processes.

  • Develop and facilitate HR-related training sessions for management and supervisors.

  • Assess HR approaches and services for business units, identifying needs and gaps, and developing plans to address requirements.

  • Proactively analyze key HR metrics such as headcount and turnover, identify trends and issues, and collaborate with the business to implement relevant solutions.

  • Maintain current knowledge of HR best practices and emerging trends internally and externally, ensuring that our practices remain relevant, competitive, and aligned with ParaMed's culture, values, and employment brand.

  • Work with business leaders to raise awareness of HR trends and leading practices, providing insights on areas for improvement or performance enhancement.

  • Perform any other duties as required.

Skills and Requirements:

  • University Degree or completion of a College Diploma Program in Human Resources. CHRP designation an asset.

  • 5+ years of relevant HR/LR work experience within a Human Resources department with at least 3 years as an HR/LR generalist.

  • Experience in unionized environment considered an asset.

  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

  • Working knowledge of human resources policy and practice and of relevant HR and employment-related legislation in applicable jurisdictions, including laws pertaining to Employment Standards and Human Rights.

  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of an organization.

  • Enjoys a challenge and committed to building a high-performance organization.

  • Excellent organizational, project management and execution skills to ensure successful delivery/implementation of HR projects, policies and processes.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and HRIS.
