Research Student (Masters Student Placement)
Term: May - August 2025 (Full-Time Placement)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The SE Research Centre conducts impact-oriented health services research to synthesize, generate, translate, adapt, and directly apply scientific evidence in the design, delivery and evaluation of person and family-centered health and social care services.
The primary role of the research assistant is to provide support to a health services research project within the SE Research Centre priority research field, 'Health and Care Experiences'.
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a research student with interest in working at the intersection of healthcare, data and quality improvement focused on health informatics, survey methods, learning health systems, and/or data science to support an organization-wide learning community focused on understanding patient reported experience measure (PREM) data collected in the organization and how it can enhance data-informed decision making. This is a great opportunity to explore data visualization within a new client-reported experience measure data under the supervision of a nurse scientist.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project and community management activities
· Coordinate and manage learning community activities, including meetings, workshops, and knowledge-sharing events.
· Maintain documentation and resources for the learning community.
· Participate in and document action items from team meetings.
Data analysis and visualization
· Analyze Patient-Reported Experience Measure (PREM) data to identify trends and insights.
· Contribute to the development of clear, compelling data visualizations to communicate findings.
· Provide support to learning community members through translation of data into actionable recommendations.
Knowledge Mobilization and Communication
· Facilitate discussions and presentations within the learning community.
· Participate knowledge mobilization through creation of lay summaries and key message to share with interested parties.
· Participate in writing research conference abstracts, publications, and/or a project grant outline.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
· Graduate student or Graduate degree in health informatics, public health, health sciences, or data science or a related field.
· An understanding of and/or experience working in health assessment data and/or patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) and/or outcome measures.
Skill Requirements
· Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Excel SPSS, R, Microsoft Power BI).
· Experience generating knowledge mobilization products including lay and academic writing.
· Demonstrated ability to plan projects.
· Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
· Ability to contribute to a team under complex research and organizational conditions, and in an environment of multiple priorities.
· Diplomacy and interpersonal skills.
· Excellent problem solving, creative thinking and decision-making capacity.
