Senior Data Architect

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on and experienced Data Architect with specialized expertise in finance, accounting, billing and payroll systems to lead our data migration and transformation initiatives. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical data architecture skills with comprehensive domain knowledge in finance and accounting, particularly in areas such as General Ledger (GL), financial statements, and accounting processes as well as payroll and billing. This role will be instrumental in conducting thorough data discovery, mapping legacy systems to new platforms, and ensuring data quality throughout our transformation journey.

Primary Responsibilities

Data Architecture & Migration

  • Lead data discovery initiatives, including reverse engineering of data elements from existing reports, UI applications, and databases
  • Create comprehensive data mappings from legacy systems to new platforms, with special focus on financial data structures
  • Design and validate data models that align with financial and accounting best practices
  • Conduct in-depth data discovery exercises using advanced SQL programming and advanced programming (i.e. build T-SQL queries that would assist in achieving this objective)
  • Designing and implementing data models, including dimensional and relational models
  • Propose data quality measures
  • Ensure data quality and integrity throughout the migration process
  • Develop and maintain data dictionaries and metadata repositories
  • Oversee ETL processes and data transformation strategies

Financial Systems Expertise

  • Analyze and document financial data structures, particularly in areas such as General Ledger, Balance sheet, Cash Flow statements, and Income Statements, among others.
  • Validate data models against financial reporting requirements and in collaboration with SMEs
  • Work closely with Finance SMEs to understand complex accounting processes and data requirements
  • Translate intricacies and unique practices into programming artifacts and objects

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Facilitate meetings and workshops with Finance SMEs and other stakeholders
  • Lead data discovery sessions to understand current data usage, limitations, and business requirements
  • Document and communicate data lineage, business logic, and transformation rules
  • Present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively
  • Build consensus around data architecture decisions

Required Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Expert-level expertise in data modeling, particularly in financial systems
  • Advanced knowledge in payroll and billing systems

· Experience with data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, and data integration techniques

  • Proven hands-on experience with:
    • SQL Server (on-premises)
    • Azure or AWS cloud technologies
    • Workday (Finance module) or similar cloud-based financial platforms
  • Demonstrated knowledge of database management systems and data architecture principles
  • Experience with ETL processes and data migration tools
  • Proficiency in data quality assessment and improvement methodologies

Domain Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of financial and accounting concepts, particularly:
    • General Ledger (GL) structures
    • Financial statements (Cash Flow, Income Statements, etc.)
    • Financial data quality requirements
  • Experience with financial systems data models
  • Understanding of financial reporting requirements and accounting principles

Professional Skills

  • Excellent requirements gathering skills including meeting facilitation and presentation skills
  • Strong stakeholder management capabilities
  • Proven ability to lead technical discussions with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience in documenting complex data structures and relationships

Experience

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in data architecture or related field
  • At least 5 years of experience working with financial systems and data
  • Demonstrated experience in data migration projects
  • Track record of successful stakeholder engagement
