What we are looking for:

The York Region Preschool Speech and Language Program is administered by Oak Valley Health (OVH). We provide a coordinated community based speech and language service for children, birth to kindergarten entry. The program engages in collaborative service delivery with other community agencies such as Early Intervention Services, the Children's Treatment Network and the York-Simcoe Autism Network. Flexibility to provide services across York Region and in a variety of settings (e.g., clinic, child care centres, entry to school programs, virtual) is required.

The responsibilities will include:

· Assessment and treatment of a variety of disorders, including language, speech sound production, dysfluency, children with

Autism Spectrum Disorder, and children with developmental disabilities

· Working collaboratively with the family, Early Intervention Services, licensed child care providers and other community partners

in order to support a Routines Based Model (RBM) approach of intervention

· Providing consultation to Entry to School Programs offered through the Ontario Autism Program

· Preparing assessment and discharge reports

· Making treatment decisions based on the assessment results

· Implementing and coaching therapeutic techniques with individual clients and with groups

· Supervision of Communicative Disorders Assistant(s)

· Counseling the child's caregivers and /or families

· Liaising with external health agencies, school boards and children's mental health agencies

· Designing and providing education programs and literature for children, families and others

· Taking an active role in performing and maintaining professional practice standards, guidelines and activities

· Actively involved in caregiver education and performing other related duties

· Current position may include providing virtual and in-person services

What you bring to the role:

  • Master's Degree in Speech Pathology
  • Registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
  • Previous experience dealing with paediatric populations would be a definite asset
  • Experience working with children with special needs, including children with autism spectrum disorder is considered an asset
  • Certification in the Hanen programs: It Takes Two to Talk® and More than Words® is an asset
  • Ability to offer services in more than one language is highly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the team
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.

Work Schedule:

The successful candidate will be available to work 8 hour day shifts, Monday through Friday.

This is a full-time temporary position from April 2024 - March 2025.

Compensation:

OPCOM13: $44.80 - $57.08 per hour

Location:

This position will be located in various locations throughout York Region. Location can change based on the needs of the program.
