Duties and Responsibilities - Counsellor, Exercise

  • Responsible for demonstrating proper instruction to customers with respect to correct technique and use of exercise equipment.
  • Responsible for enforcing fitness etiquette rules and guidelines posted.
  • Assist customer service with facility tours, provide direction, and clear all applicable areas in emergency situations.
  • Perform daily safety inspections, inventories and cleaning duties.
  • Responsible for checking wristbands for select fitness classes as needed.
  • Provide emergency first-aid when required.
  • Provides Fitness Starters (45 mins) to members who have signed up.
  • Counsellor will show select cardio and strength exercises, takes blood pressure, heart rate and will provide quality customer service and act as a knowledgeable resource to participants.

Duties and Responsibilities - Personal Fitness Trainer

  • Responsible for contacting clients to arrange training/assessment times.
  • Responsible for reviewing Personal Training request sheet and Par Q health screening questionnaire.
  • Provide Fitness Assessments for effective customer screening and program design.
  • Must have knowledge of PAR Q interpretation.
  • Provide assessments (approx.1 hour in duration) and focus on body composition, customer goals, blood pressure/heart rate screening, strength, flexibility and cardiovascular health.
  • Responsible for program design/exercise prescription specific to client's individual goals, needs, limitations and must stay within scope of practice for effective program design.
  • Monitor and correct technique throughout exercise session and effectively adjust program based on needs and plateau peaks.
  • Continually provide encouragement and support to clients and strive to provide a safe and effective environment for clients and surrounding members.
  • Modify exercises with respect to principles of training for effective program delivery.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Personal Training Certificate by a recognized association including Can Fit Pro, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, CPTN or equivalent with annual renewals provided for validation.
  • Completion of a minimum 2 years of a College Diploma/University Degree program in a fitness related field.
  • Emergency First Aid/CPR "B" certification.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Experience and familiarity with common fitness training techniques.
  • Strong program leadership skills.
  • Level 3 - Vulnerable check will be required of the successful candidate, as a condition of employment, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $22.61 - $24.85 (Exercise Counsellor) & $28.34 - $37.78 (Personal Trainer, Fitness)
Hours of Work: up to 24
Work Location: Various Community Centre locations throughout Mississauga
