Job Description

Working with the Town of Newmarket's Recreation and Culture Team, means the opportunity to make a difference and connect with your community! The Successful Candidate Will:

1. Be responsible for the set -up, design and program delivery of personal training sessions including: one-on-one and small group trainings that meet the participant's specific goals.

2. Deliver fitness programs/consultations/orientations following the Town of Newmarket protocols and industry standards in a professional and courteous way.

3. Maintain and submit accurate records of attendance, client progress, client feedback and incidents/accidents diligently. This includes the management of client session packages.

4. Seek member feedback and make recommendations to keep sessions engaging and reflective client progress. This includes researching industry trends, completing program evaluations and consistent communication with the client.

5. Responds to emergency situations including performing minor first aid and/or arranging for medical assistance, completion of accident/incident or facility forms and follow-ups with Recreation Programmer/Supervisor.

Job Requirements

1. A degree or diploma in an exercise related field is an asset - Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, and Fitness and Health Promotion.

2. Current CSEP-CPT or Certified Personal Training Certification (Can Fit Pro or equivalent) along with additional certifications in other areas of personal training, such as Kettlebell, Gravity, TRX, or other.

3. One to two years training at a level related to the program hired to instruct.

4. Demonstrated work experience of at least one to three years in the area hired to instruct.

5. An ability to design and execute individual and small group exercise fitness programs, tailored to the needs and attainable goals of the individual in a safe and effective way.

6. Maintaining a working knowledge of human anatomy and the concepts of functional exercise, basic nutrition and fundamental principles of exercise science.

7. Excellent customer service, communication, interpersonal, motivational, leadership, and organizational skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of patrons, parents, and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.

8. Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification required.

9. Demonstrated knowledge of applicable legislation, policies, and regulations, including Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), Occupational Health and Safety Act, etc.

10. Availability/flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

11. Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.

Please Note: Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.
