Working with the Town of Newmarket's Recreation and Culture Team, means the opportunity to make a difference and connect with your community! The Successful Candidate will:
Guide participants with disabilities through safe, and well-planned activities in a group setting.
Adapt activities and make modifications to program plans as needed.
Manage behavioural challenges to ensure safety of participants with disabilities, other participants and staff. Occasionally may involve physical contact with participants.
Provide personal care of children/youth/adults with disabilities, as required, including toileting, changing and feeding.
Communicate with parents/guardians on a frequent basis and collaborate with other program staff to resolve issues or concerns.
Collaborate with other program staff and supervisors to discuss program plans, ideas, areas of concern, and participant information (i.e. behaviours, interests, triggers, strategies, etc.).

Post-secondary studies in recreation, social work, education, Personal Support Worker, recreation therapy or demonstrated experience (1 - 2 years) working with children, youth and/or adults in recreational delivery settings including persons with special needs.
Certifications in behaviour management, mental health and addictions an asset.
Ability to participate and assist participants in a variety of recreational activities which may include adapted activities, swimming, skating, and other sports including the ability to assist with lifts & transfers.
Ability to deal courteously and effectively with participants, other staff, parents or guardians, participant support teams as well as the public.
Excellent customer service, communication, leadership, and organizational skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of patrons, parents, and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification required.
Current High Five (Principles of Healthy Child Development) certification required.
Behaviour Management Systems, Safe Management or Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification required.
Please Note: Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.
