Bruyère, an Academic Health Science Centre, excels in the provision of evidence-based health care and services for the vulnerable and medically complex, with a focus on persons who require sub-acute, geriatric or palliative care. Among other programs, Bruyère provides in-patient and out-patient clinical services in Care of the Elderly, Complex Continuing Care, Palliative Care, Family Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Bruyère is one of the largest health care centers of its kind in Canada and a resource for information on the special care required by the elderly, people with chronic and terminal illnesses, and persons having suffered loss of autonomy.

The Saint Vincent Hospital Complex Continuing Care Associates (SVHCCC) are currently looking to fill positions within our Complex Continuing Care (CCC) inpatient program. These positions are ideal positions for family doctors, hospitalists or new graduates looking for a new challenge and stable income. The ideal candidates must work well in a team environment and be comfortable with inpatient medicine.

The SVHCC associates are looking for coverage starting as soon as possible. This position will start as a three-month locum position and transition to a permanent active physician staff member following this.

Work Expectations:

Bruyère requires the services of a hospitalist physician for coverage on the Complex Continuing Care inpatient unit. The provider will be the Most Responsible Provider (MRP) for between 25-30 patients including but not limited to:

  • Admission histories/Admission Note with the assistance of Physician Assistants
  • Rounding and providing medical care on 20-30 patients 2-5 times a week depending of care stream (rehab vs chronic) within standard business hours (8-5) Monday to Friday
  • Taking calls 8-5 daily (M-F) for said patients from floor
  • Physical examinations
  • Ongoing general medical care
  • Discharge medication prescriptions and discharge summaries prepared on day of discharge
  • Attend family conferences
  • Daytime availability to manage emergency medical situations

Remuneration:

  • Minimal overhead cost
  • Funded through an Alternate Funding Plan

Reporting directly to the Chief of Complex Continuing Care:

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) Degree
  • Appropriate Certificate in medical practice from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
  • Registration in good standing with the CMPA
  • License in Ontario (or be eligible for licensure)
  • Hospital privileges
  • Bilingualism (French/English) would be an asset.
