What would my role be?

Reporting to the Nursing Practice Leader and as a member of the interprofessional team, you will enhance the nursing practice and help to optimize patient outcomes by assisting in the implementation, dissemination, uptake, and evaluation of new nursing initiatives, policies, procedures and practices under the guidance of the Nursing Professional Practice Team.

How do I qualify?

Required:

  • College diploma in Nursing
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a hospital setting, in any of Bruyère Health’s programs and/or general medicine
  • Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Level C certificate

Preferred:

  • Related specialty certification where applicable or available (e.g., CNA certification)
  • Membership in relevant professional associations (e.g., RNAO, CGNA, OARN, etc).
  • Fluent in French and English

What skills should I possess to succeed in the role?

  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in English
  • Able to assist in the coaching of nurses to develop, implement, evaluate, and modify a plan of care.
  • Able to coach, teach and mentor Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), other Registered Nurses, Personal Care Attendants (PCAs) and new staff including new graduates
  • Able to provide just in time education
  • Evidence of ongoing academic and / or professional development activities
  • Excellent knowledge of the College of Nurses of Ontario documentation
  • Knowledge of the College of Nurses of Ontario practice standards
  • Knowledge related to best practice guidelines
  • Strong clinical knowledge and assessment skills
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, planning, organizational, time-management skills and conflict resolution skills
  • Flexibility and openness to feedback, positive, engaging attitude and thirst for knowledge
  • Able to provide support and mentors nurses to carry out their roles and to work within their scope of practice
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a clinical expert
  • Knowledge of resources available to nurses and students related to practice
  • Able to adapt to different clinical situations
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
