Description

The Access Worker supervises children's visits, observing and preparing accurate and detailed documentation of all visits.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Client Services:

  • Supervise children's visits according to Court orders or other relevant agreements.
  • Communicate with clients as required regarding childcare instructions, etc.
  • Intervene when appropriate to ensure child safety and welfare and terminate visit when required.
  • Provide feedback/correction to the relevant party, as necessary.
  • Obtain information gathered during supervised access visits and prepare accurate and detailed documentation of all visits in a timely manner.

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure that the Supervised Access environment provides a safe and positive experience for staff, children and families it serves.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a permanent part time position based on up to 10 hours per week.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet program requirements; weekend and evening work is required.
  • Some travel is required from Owen Sound to Walkerton. A program vehicle will be used when travel is required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completed an Undergraduate University Degree in Social Work or Counselling.
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License; current copy of a Driver's abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and First Aid & CPR Certifications. Expected to ensure that all certifications are maintained as required.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience in a Supervised Access program, or in a comparable setting working with children and families in crisis.
  • Negotiation, conciliation and conflict management skills.

Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

  • Represent The Salvation Army in a positive, professional and engaging manner.
  • Maintain information in confidence as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
  • Participate in mandatory orientation training, on-going professional development and training.
  • Participate in regular supervision and performance appraisal process.
  • Must comply with all Salvation Army policies and procedures and associated legislation.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills and respect authority.
  • Self-motivated/disciplined.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
