Southbridge, the owner and operator of several long-term care homes and retirement communities in Southwestern Ontario, is currently seeking an Environmental Services Manager to join their long-term care home in the GTA.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Environmental Services Manager is responsible for performing general routine maintenance, and servicing operations throughout the home, keeping our home environment safe for residents and staff alike! This role is also managing the housekeeping, laundry and maintenance departments to achieve high standards of cleanliness and sanitation and to provide quality linen service.

Daily Routine Responsibilities:
  • Observe and monitor all areas of the facility for ongoing general maintenance and servicing requirements and carries out repairs as required.
  • Document and implement the preventative maintenance programs.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs to equipment as well as mechanical plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Refer problems requiring specialized work to outside contractors and monitors work performed and obtain approval to do such.
  • Other jobs around the facility as need be to follow procedures and policies regarding the upkeep of the home including groundskeeping.
Management Responsibilities:
  • Support the Executive Director in the hiring and performance management of departmental staff; staff development, including identification and delivery of department-specific orientation and training.
  • Supervision of contractors' work to ensure fulfilment of contractual obligations.
  • Preparation and management of departmental budgets; inventory management and control, including purchase of departmental supplies and equipment.
  • Full participation in leadership team activities and responsibilities, including participation on teams and committees, and reporting.
  • Manage all aspects of management of quality and quantity of services and products provided and produced by departmental staff.
  • Knowledge and application of departmental safety program as part of your daily duties.
  • Maintenance of records, statistics, and reports in accordance with home policies, and all applicable legislation and standards.

Qualifications:
  • Two-year post-secondary diploma or degree in Environmental Services/Building Services Management or related field
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry and heating and ventilation systems
  • Experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
  • Formal training in building maintenance is an asset.
  • Health and safety certification is an asset.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices and/or, if there are none, prevailing practices relating to housekeeping, laundry and maintenance, as applicable
  • Experience in a maintenance role within a resident or guest building with long-term care setting, preferred.
  • Experience in management of human and financial resources an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both English and French preferred.
  • Ability to complete a vulnerable sector check
  • Ability to workday shifts with some on call capabilities.
  • Ability to meet physical and safety requirements of the job (standing for long periods, bending, lifting, etc.)
