Job Description

Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) RN Lead

This position is for our Extendicare Mapleview Home, located in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario

Available opportunities include: Temporary Part-time

Work:

  • Day, evening and night shifts and weekends
  • 6 shifts biweekly
  • Frequent contact with residents exhibiting responsive behaviours.
  • Overall management of BSO RPN, and BSO PSW's.

What you bring:

  • Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses; BScN (preferred)
  • 2-3 years' experience in RN role in LTC Involvement in BSO/Q.I. processes/Team/Committee an asset.
  • RN: Training in P.I.E.C.E.S, Dimentiability, Mental Health First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Gentle Persuasive Approach, U-First and Montessori an asset.
  • Experience and knowledge in analyzing data from assessments, Dementia Observation System (DOS), Cornell Scale of Depression, Cohen Mansfield Agitation Inventory, Aggressive Behavior Scale and Depression Rating Scale.
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge and skill working with residents with types of Dementia, Delirium, mental health, addictions, other neurological conditions, and/or with acute behavioral changes.
  • Knowledge of LTC Home Act & Regulations pertinent to LTC
  • Thorough understanding of the Residents' Bill of Rights.
  • Enhanced knowledge of family and caregiver needs who can be best-served by a behavioral support system
  • Familiarity with RAI documentation and care planning functions.
  • Good physical & behavioral assessment skills for evaluating Dementias, Depressions, Deliriums, Mental Health, Addictions & Cognitive Impairments.
  • Understanding of person and caregiver focused care and supported by best evidence-based clinical practices.
  • Strong critical thinking skills for early detection, intervention & prevention or Responsive Behaviors
  • Good understanding of Pharmacology-drugs used to manage conditions and interactions.
  • Good understanding of non-Pharmacological and 'Therapeutic Supportive Measures' approaches
  • Person-Centered Care Delivery: Focused care, supported by best evidence-based clinical practices.
  • Leadership, Facilitation, Coaching and Mentoring: Ability to provide leadership within the team.
  • Collaboration and Communications: Shows effectiveness as a Team Member through respect, collaboration, good communication skills. Uses strategies to enhance communication with care partners.
  • Professionalism, Work Ethics, good attendance, organizing work priorities, flexibility in working hours and adaptability to change.
  • Professional work ethic and behaviors in interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
