Unity Health Toronto is currently seeking a results-oriented individual who is highly motivated and demonstrates a management style that is visionary, creative and collaborative for the role of Manager, Nursing Practice and Education at Providence Healthcare. The role will appeal to an experienced individual who is passionate about excellence in nursing practice and education and has a vision for evidence-informed practice as a key strategy for achieving the best possible care in rehabilitation, palliative and complex continuing care.
The primary responsibility of the Providence site Manager Nursing Practice & Education is to lead and manage Providence Healthcare's nursing professional practice team and to provide optimal leadership in matters of nursing professional practice and education as they relate to nursing practice standards, best practices, education and knowledge translation. This role oversees the Clinical Educator - Nursing positions, Clinical Nurse Specialist - Rehab and CCC and Respiratory Therapy at Providence Healthcare and reports to the Senior Director Nursing Practice & Education. The Manager will lead and contribute to the development of innovative and sustainable programs and approaches for nursing practice and continuing professional education as well as academic education for nursing students consistent with Unity Health Toronto's Corporate Strategic Plan and Inter-professional and Education Strategic Plans.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and lead Providence Healthcare's nursing professional practice and education team and implement strategies to build and foster an effective team environment and a culture built on respect, trust, wellbeing and lifelong learning.
- Manage, motivate and provide professional practice direction and education for the nursing professional practice & education team, managers and staff.
- Provide leadership in creating, articulating and sustaining Unity Health Toronto's vision for nursing and inter-professional collaborative practice
- Develop, implement, manage and evaluate short and long term plans which support and advance nursing practice and nursing standards.
- Promote a culture of reflective practice by providing nursing specific leadership and mentoring in an evidence based continuous learning and research based practice environment.
- Develop, implement and continuously evaluate an evidence informed and cost-effective site specific nursing orientation program and develop principles, structures and tools to ensure alignment with unit/program based orientation
- Lead and manage the development, implementation and evaluation of the site's nursing education program designed to maximize nursing scope of practice and enable continuous professional development, novice and specialty knowledge development.
- Promote continuous quality improvement initiatives to ensure ongoing professional development of nursing staff
- Contribute to the development of policies, procedures and standards to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of excellent care to all patients and families.
- Lead in the collaboration and management in the development, delivery and evaluation of interprofessional education programs and interventions that promote excellence in inter-professional practice and patient-centred care.
- Lead and manage the development and management of all aspects of nursing student placements, including identifying and developing opportunities for innovative approaches to academic nursing student placements.
- Manage the development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of quality improvement initiatives, which are in alignment with Unity Health Toronto's Corporate Strategic plan, policies, procedures and standards.
- Provide leadership and acting as a resource for internal and external stakeholders
- Monitor regulatory/practice updates and changes and develops and/or supports the implementation of necessary changes in nursing practice
- Collaborate in the development of budgets for the utilization of resources to support corporate and site specific nursing practice initiatives and process improvement initiatives.
- Perform and plan operations responsibilities to facilitate the achievement of corporate/program objectives and the creation of a healthy workplace that maximizes the potential of nursing staff, identifying financial needs to support nursing practice and education initiatives.
- Engage in knowledge translation and mobilization by ensuring that innovations are measured, sustained, outcomes improved and findings disseminated;
- Represent Unity Health Toronto in the external community (committees, conferences, etc.) to build partnerships, translate new knowledge and innovations, and promote scholarship.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario .
- Completion of a Master's Degree in Nursing and/or Adult Education or other relevant field, required.
- Clinical appointment with a Faculty of Nursing or eligible for appointment.
- Three (3) years' previous management or leadership experience including professional practice and educational experience, required .
- Minimum five (5) years' previous clinical experience.
- Well-developed leadership competencies (negotiation, active listening, participative leadership style, ability to inspire others, articulate a vision for rehab nursing practice, nursing education, delegation, influencing, goal setting, achievement oriented, coaching skills, etc.)
- Demonstrated evidence of strong knowledge on regulatory standards, organizational policies/guidelines and evidence based practices.
- Strong teaching and adult learning skills required.
- Current membership in a related professional interest group preferred .
- Sound knowledge of the professional and regulatory environment that influences nursing practice and education, required.
- Well-developed knowledge of, and recent experience in, evidence-based curriculum development, delivery and evaluation required
- Strong change management and project management skills required
