Physiotherapist A4-Specialized Geriatric (Job ID: 8808)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Physiotherapist will assess the musculoskeletal/respiratory/neurological status of patients and treat appropriately through physiotherapy. All duties are performed in accordance with the Mission & Values of Unity Health Toronto.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assess each patient's level of function and identify problem areas;
  • Establish treatment goals based on assessment findings and then plan and initiate a treatment program that is continually monitored;
  • Document initial assessment findings and at regular intervals reassessments and progress notes in patient's medical records according to the Charting Policies and Procedures of the discipline and program;
  • Be an active and consulting member of the Interdisciplinary team;
  • Be involved in interdisciplinary committees and act as a consultant and supportive team member of other team members;
  • Act as a consultant to allied health professionals family members;
  • Delegate tasks appropriate to Physiotherapy Assistants knowledge base and monitors these activities;
  • Attend in-services and continuing education events to maintain knowledge of the hospital policies and upgrade professional skills;
  • Develop and conduct educational and clinical teaching program for hospital staff, physiotherapy assistants, students and patients and their families as required;
  • Design and implement proposals and/or pilot studies consulting with the Professional Practice Leader and Director, Patient Care;
  • Be involved in collaborative interdisciplinary research and projects.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQURIED:
  • Must be a graduate of a recognized school of Physiotherapy and be eligible for membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, including registration with the Ontario College of Physiotherapy;
  • Must be able to demonstrate involvement in ongoing education and upgrading of skills within the profession;
  • Therapeutic skills necessary to the assigned program;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Basic administrative skills;
  • A genuine interest and knowledge of geriatrics, chronic illness and palliative care here applicable;
  • Very good attendance record;
  • Good performance record.
