As a Palliative Care Educator, you will function as an active broker of knowledge by developing, delivering and evaluating training and education programs for our staff, and developing resources and implementing processes to ensure that the knowledge is communicated to the appropriate consumer.

Whether you work in our office, in the community, or a health care facility – you will play a lead role in providing connected, accessible, patient-centred care – and be supported by our collaborative team that includes over 8,000 regulated health care and other professionals.

What will you do?

  • Participates in ongoing education needs assessment (as required);
  • Develops an annual and ongoing multi-year education plan;
  • Assists with preparation and monitoring of budget in conjunction with management ;
  • Contacts new resources for the program, as required;
  • Maintains regular communication with partner agencies including relevant community committees and working groups;
  • Develops and delivers standard education to the target groups identified;
  • Delivers standard and advanced level programs such as Fundamentals, Comprehensive Advanced Palliative Care Education (CAPCE), and Advanced Practical Palliative Skills (APPS) to both regulated healthcare professionals and others;
  • Develops evaluation methods and evaluates programs on an ongoing basis;
  • Ensures that project feedback is reviewed and action taken as required;
  • Ensures continuous quality improvement in educational content and delivery;
  • Develops working/operational resource manuals/files (as required);
  • Ensures accurate and relevant information for regulated healthcare professionals (i.e. Cancer Care Ontario’s guide to practice);
  • Develops mechanisms for sharing knowledge i.e., web based resource centre, networking days;

What must you have?

  • Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse and member of the College of Nurses of Ontario;
  • University degree preferred in nursing;
  • CNA certification in Hospice Palliative Care Nursing essential (or working towards);
  • Knowledge and understanding of adult education principles;
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in delivery or mentoring re: Palliative Care;
  • Membership with OHPCA or CHPCA;
  • Vehicle and valid Ontario driver’s license required.
  • Proficient in a Windows environment
  • We have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy. As a condition of employment, all employees are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination status prior to start date.

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member;
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in an interdisciplinary, interagency and self- directed environment;
