As a Payroll Specialist, you are responsible for administrative duties as it relates to biweekly payroll processing, maintenance of payroll information, year-end payroll processing along with various personnel related functions and for assisting in the development of internal financial statements, preparation of the budget and maintenance of the charts of accounts and general ledger and year-end audit file.

What will you do?

  • Process the biweekly payroll as directed; process year-end payroll.
  • Maintain relevant employee information in the payroll system database.
  • Maintain and preserve the day-to-day confidential information of the Finance Department.
  • Participate in the process to assess, plan, implement and develop Finance activities and services ensuring high quality standards and quality client service.
  • Advise and educate Ontario Health atHome staff relating to Accounting and Payroll system.
  • Perform payroll audits.
  • Liaises with Human Resources personnel on payroll related processes.
  • Assist in preparation of year end audit.
  • Maintain Payroll Professional modules of Human Resources Information System ensuring regular updates are processed, i.e., coordinate upgrades as required.
  • Actively collect and analysis of data to support the organization's confidential strategic orientation, encompassing employment and labour relations information
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains high levels of confidentiality and discretion when working with confidential organizational, financial, and human resources data, including details about collective bargaining strategies and the organization's interests in labour relations and employment.

What do we offerWhat must you have?

  • Diploma in Business Administration with a major in Finance or Accounting or relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in personnel/payroll.
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience with computerized payroll systems including knowledge of year-end processing.
  • Experience with computers in a Windows environment (e.g., Microsoft Office and database programs).
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks within tight timelines.
  • We have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy. As a condition of employment, all employees are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination status prior to start date.

What would give you the edge?

  • Working knowledge of fundamental accounting for healthcare, payroll administration, and ability to interpret and apply provincial and federal payroll regulations
  • Knowledge of Employment Standards Act, Employment Insurance, WSIB, EHT and HOOPP, and group benefits
  • Proficiency in automated (Quadrant) payroll, scheduling and administration
  • Knowledge of Management Information Systems (MIS) guidelines as set out by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care
  • Knowledge of Ontario Health atHome services
  • Familiarity with the issues and priorities of the health care sector and how these impact business practices financially
  • Ability to speak French or another second language
