Recreation Therapist - Behavioral Supports Ontario (Bso)

The scope of practice for Recreation Therapists encompasses assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. Candidates are expected to possess a background in Therapeutic Recreation from recognized post-secondary institutions and fulfill specific requirements for BSO positions, including:

• Relevant Training: Completion of Gentle Persuasive Approaches (8 hours) and P.I.E.C.E.S. training.
• Experience: 2-3 years working in Long-Term Care (LTC) or a similar environment.
• Educational Background: Additional coursework in lifespan development or gerontology.
• Professional Registration: Preferred candidates should hold R/TRO registration or at least be a member of Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO).

Key Responsibilities in the Job Description:

• Assessment: Conduct screening for common geriatric syndromes (e.g., pain, delirium, frailty, depression) in collaboration with the care team.
• Goal Setting: Develop individualized therapeutic goals and non-pharmacological intervention plans.
• Plan Modification: Adapt and support existing intervention plans as necessary.
• Mental Health Support: Implement behavioral activation strategies, CBT-informed practices, and manage medication side effects.
• Personhood Assessment: Engage in individualized care planning that respects the personhood of each resident.
• Group and Individual Interventions: Provide assessments and interventions for individuals meeting BSO criteria.
