Job Description

The Academic Program Manager, reporting to the Head of the Centre for Community Health Education, makes daily decisions that keep a complex portfolio of initiatives on track, delivering on scope, budget, and outcomes in a multi-complexity environment, bringing along clients, colleagues, consultants, and other stakeholders to achieve business objectives, and to ensure high quality learning experiences for all participants.

Responsibilities:

The Academic Program Manager is a self-starter with proven experience managing multiple projects in a multi-stakeholder environment. They are deeply familiar with structured methodologies for project management in complex environments like healthcare or post-secondary education. They ensure managed programs achieve success through team leadership of matrixed functional groups of skilled individuals who may report organizationally elsewhere, negotiating required time and attention.

The Academic Program Manager has outstanding communication skills, including writing clearly and concisely, superior facilitation skills, and excellent project presentation skills. They are comfortable and successful in engaging with decision-makers and influencers across large organizations and institutions, including government ministries and agencies, across UHN entities, and internally with Michener colleagues.

In addition, the Academic Program Manager:

  • Must be an expert in breaking complex initiatives into the processes and procedures required to achieve success, bringing clarity of vision in process improvements and change management.
  • Launches and sustains programming for the Michener Institute to deliver in service to the healthcare system, ensuring success in quality and enrolment targets.
  • Provides formal and informal program reporting, trend analyses, updates, and progress communications, maintaining communication with all stakeholders and enhancing the Michener brand through expert, on-time, on-budget quality delivery.
  • Acts as a valued second to the Head, Centre for Community Health Education, providing the day-to-day delivery lens on both new programming and on optimizing ongoing programming to ensure financial and learning success for students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent education or experience
  • PMP certification is an asset, but not required
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in project management
  • Minimum 5 years of direct experience in healthcare and/or post-secondary education or a combination of both.
  • Six Sigma experience/certification is an asset, but not required
  • A track record of successful program planning, stakeholder engagement, program communications, metrics tracking, and outcome analysis in complex environments
  • Outstanding communication skills, including writing clearly and concisely, and project management presentation skills
