Job Description

Site: Princess Margaret Cancer Centre
Department: Interprogram - Cancer Genomics Program (CGP), Tumor Immunotherapy Program (TIP), and Phase I Drug Development Program (DDP1)
Reports to: Director, Phase I Drug Development Program (DDP1)
Work Model: Remote (except when required to be on-site for occasional key meetings)
Grade: M0:06
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: $100,133 - $125,171 annually (To be commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)
Shifts: Monday - Friday
Status: Temporary Full-time (18-month maternity leave coverage)
Closing Date: February 15, 2025

Position Summary
The Acting Manager of Research Planning is accountable for planning, implementing, and leading the development of collaborative research projects with internal and external partners, tracking project outcomes, and driving productivity. This individual will work across several programs including the Phase I Drug Development Program (DDP1), the Cancer Genomics Program (CGP) and the Tumor Immunotherapy Program (TIP). Under the leadership of the DDP1 Director and in collaboration with other Program leaders, the Acting Research Alliance and Planning Manager will work to advance the synergistic precision medicine research priorities between these three key programs, and network with external partners to plan and execute collaborative research projects. This position will serve as a key project manager, representing the Princess Margaret in various external alliance networks.

One such alliance network is the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network (MOHCCN), a national network of leading cancer centres that promotes collaborative research and accelerates the discovery of new innovations by linking and sharing multi-omic molecular and clinical data across Canada. This network coalesces individual precision medicine projects throughout Canada, creating a powerful, consolidated, and comprehensively annotated dataset. The Acting Research Alliance and Planning Manager is an integral part of the MOHCCN Princess Margaret Cancer Consortium (PM2C) team that works in conjunction with other members of the MOHCCN to advance this effort.

Duties

  • Managing and tracking activities for a large portfolio of complex research studies across multiple institutions
  • Leading working team meetings, creating and following up on action items, and driving deliverables
  • Optimizing workflows to assist with the generation of an enriched dataset
  • Collecting, transforming, and standardizing clinical data to conform to evolving standards
  • Preparing project budgets, scientific progress reports, financial reports, and materials for presentation
  • Assisting in setting research goals, developing guidelines/standard operating procedures, and implementing action plans
  • Performing administrative tasks such as organizing meetings, taking minutes, and sending post-meeting summaries
  • Acting in a sponsor role for multi-centre research studies, registering patients, and monitoring accrual

Qualifications

  • At minimum, the completion of a Bachelor's degree program, or recognized equivalent in Health or Science-Related Discipline
  • At minimum over 4 years and up to 6 years of project management and related experience
  • Demonstrated relevant clinical research knowledge
  • Experience in some or all of oncology, clinical trials, medical terminology, and regulatory issues involving human subjects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent organization, prioritization skills, computer skills, ability to learn quickly and work independently
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and attend to details
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with UHN standards
  • Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
  • Satisfactory attendance
  • Certification as a Clinical Research Professional an asset
