Job Description

Reports to: Manager, Professional Practice, Practice Based Education & Manager, Professional Practice, Emergency Department, General Internal Medicine, Medical Day Unit
Hours: 37.50 hours per week
Salary: $48.40 - $60.50 per hour
Status: Temporary Full-Time (6 months, with possible extension)
Closing Date: January 10, 2025

Reporting to the Manager, Professional Practice - Practice-based Education and the Manager, Professional Practice - Emergency Department, General Internal Medicine, Medical Day Unit, the Advanced Practice Nurse Educator (APNE) is an integral member of the interdisciplinary leadership team and demonstrates a set of core competencies fundamental to developing and maintaining the academic practice environment at UHN.

The APNE is a member of Emergency Department and Practice-Based Education leadership team, supporting the development of the UHN-Michener Emergency Nursing program. The APNE demonstrates a set of core competencies fundamental to developing and maintaining the academic practice environment at UHN-Michener. The incumbent will work in collaboration with leaders and teams across UHN and Michener to continue the development of the curriculum. Key accountabilities will also include education and staff development, interprofessional collaboration, scholarly/research activity, and leadership/change management. The APNE uses best practices in academic, clinical, and practice-based education to assess learning needs, develop, design, deliver and evaluate educational programs. The APNE collaborates with others to promote enhanced development and delivery of quality nursing education. The APNE contributes to the scholarship of teaching, discovery, application and integration of knowledge through research and scholarly work. The APNE leads in the creation of a preferred future for nursing education and professional practice.

Qualifications

  • Must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario and able to practice without restrictions
  • Current membership in RNAO (Registered Nurses Association of Ontario) is preferred
  • Current membership in a related professional interest group or association is preferred
  • At a minimum, completion of a graduate degree program in Nursing or Education or recognized equivalent is required
  • Theoretical and practical experience in adult education including learning needs assessment, educational program planning, development, and evaluation an asset
  • Completion of specialty-specific certification program(s) relevant to respective clinical areas required
  • At least six years of previous nursing experience in a relevant specialty preferred
  • Previous experience as an Educator considered an asset
  • Completion of a Basic Life Support (B.L.S.) program, Level II: Basic Rescuer certification Experience in nursing education an asset
  • Excellent leadership, time management, presentation skills
  • Interprets, communicates and disseminates research findings to support patient care and recommends evidence-based policy and practice change
  • Ability to be adaptable, build trust, provide coaching and collaboration, facilitate change and promote continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate ability to motivate staff and create an environment conducive to learning and team building
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Able to work effectively as a member of and/or lead an interprofessional team
  • Able to effectively use information technology
  • Ability to meet multiple and competing deadlines
  • Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code
