DEPARTMENT SUMMARY
St. Michael's Hospital Foundation (SMF) is the exclusive fundraising organization to generate and manage philanthropic funds for St. Michael's Hospital and Providence Healthcare, within Unity Health Toronto. Through multiple lines of fundraising income generation and stewardship activity, SMF, in conjunction with Unity Health, will define and promote the St. Michael's and Providence brands to maximize philanthropic revenue to fuel their healthcare, research, teaching and health equity missions. We will inspire our communities, local, provincial, national and international, to invest in our organizations' priorities to drive and implement innovation that will equitably support all members of our society to manage and overcome disease and health crises and live healthier lives to create a more inclusive and thriving society.
The Marketing and Communications department leads the brand development for the Foundation, builds the public profile of the Foundation and its campaign priorities, and helps drive awareness of, interest in, engagement with and investment in the Foundation and the Hospitals we support. Join us!
POSITION SUMMARY
The Associate Director, Development Communications and Marketing is an integral member of the Foundation's Marcom team, which is responsible for all internal and external marketing and communications across the Foundation, designed to drive awareness of, interest and engagement, investment in revenue generation, and strengthen stakeholder relations.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES
RESPONSIBILITY - Development Communications
Lead a diverse team of writers and freelancers - overseeing direction, delegation, timelines, capacity, quality, while instilling pride of work through constructive feedback and recognition of achievements.
Lead proposal development strategy for transformational gifts ($5M+)
Craft proposals to galvanize support for the Foundation's highest campaign priorities.
Project manage complex, highly-sensitive assignments and secure all stakeholder approvals.
Work collaboratively with Events, Direct and Digital Marketing, and Stewardship and Donor Relations, to deliver high-touch communications collateral, narratives and experiences that demonstrate donor impact and cultivate future giving.
Field all departmental writing requests, ensuring tasks are delegated, deadlines are met, calibre of work is high, and sensitivities are addressed.
Ensure the voice and tone of all internal/external communications is consistent across collateral.
Set the editorial agenda for, and execute, the monthly e-newsletter and social media editorial calendar.
Support the office of the President and CEO with remarks, presentations, key messages, updates and Board reports.
Copy-edit editorial assignments, ensuring content is accurate, on-brand and tailored to the audience.
Join strategic discussions with creative agencies to support the execution of multimedia public awareness/fundraising campaigns and tactics.
Lead the execution of key editorial projects, such as the annual report.
Liaise with Hospital physicians, Hospital executives, senior management and researchers, and conduct research/perform competitive analysis on a variety of health care issues.
RESPONSIBILITY - Operations
Assist the Director of Communications and Marketing with key projects and initiatives.
Schedule meetings for the team with Foundation and Hospital leadership to heighten awareness and engagement.
Organize meetings including agendas, minutes, preparation of presentations, handouts and other materials.
Ensure freelance invoices are submitted and accurate.

Work and interact with others according to the core values of the organization and contribute to building a safe, inclusive and high-performing workplace.
Act as an ambassador in the profession and throughout the community, positively representing St. Michael's Hospital and Providence Healthcare within Unity Health Toronto and the Foundation.
Abide by the policies and procedures of the Foundation, and where applicable, the Hospital.
Abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and work in a manner that is safe, reporting incidents immediately to direct supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned in order to meet the overall goals and objectives of the Foundation.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Degree in communications, public relations, advertising or journalism preferred
10 years relevant project/team management experience
Demonstrated track-record of results in non-profit/communications writing
Demonstrated leadership, reliability and flexibility
Demonstrated proficiency working with standard office software in a Windows environment (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, electronic mail/scheduling)
InDesign / Photoshop experience an asset
Strong communications skills (verbal/written)
Knowledge and understanding of social and digital media an asset
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and be self-motivated in a high-pressure, fast-paced and demanding work environment
Must be able to work cooperatively in a team environment and also tackle challenges with a positive and engaging manner
Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evening and weekends, both in-office and remotely
