Cardiac Sonographer Echocardiography (Job ID: 8553)

The primary role of the Cardiac sonographer is to perform diagnostic Echo imaging procedures at the request of the physician to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with cardiac disease. It also includes Transesophageal echocardiography, Exercise Stress Echo, Paediatric Echo, research protocols, teaching of Cardiology residents and Mohawk College students, quality assurance, communications, customer services and computer support.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Able to work effectively as a member of an inter-professional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
  • Contribute to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, students and members of the academic and professional community
  • Identifies and addresses educational needs for the patients and their families
  • Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
  • Is committed to, and participates in, ongoing quality improvement in the organization
  • Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards
  • Performing diagnostic cardiac sonography procedures using independent judgement to accurately differentiate between normal and pathological findings.
  • Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety and Infection Control policies.
  • Assume responsibility for the safety and physical comfort of patients while they are in our care

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree, graduate of an accredited educational program in Cardiac Sonography
  • Current registration with ARDMS (American Registry of diagnostic medical Sonographer) and/or CRCS-AE with Sonography Canada
  • Mandatory membership with CMRITO (College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario)
  • Current BLS/CPR Certificate required
  • Hospital experience preferred
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills
  • Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as it relates to patient care
  • Demonstrated commitment and involvement with profession (e.g. membership with professional association, etc.)preferred
  • Effective and demonstrated team skills
  • Familiarity with Accreditation Canada Diagnostics (formerly IQMH- Echocardiography Quality Improvement Program) standards
  • Experience with Trans-esophageal Echo and Exercise Echo
  • Experience with IV insertion
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities, and the ability to make independent decisions, displaying a high level of initiative.
  • Proven ability to work successful in a physically and mentally demanding environment.
  • Satisfactory attendance record

Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends as directed by the program.
