Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: $43.97- $54.96 per hour
Shifts: Variable 24/7; Including Weekends
Status: Temporary Full Time (18 months)

Position Summary
The Peter Munk Cardiac Centre program provides world-class cardiovascular care. One of the largest programs of its kind in North America, we are a major referral centre. Our program offers resources and expertise prepared to deal with even the most complex patient cases.

The Charge Sonographer performs and acts as a resource for staff in any procedure or function required to investigate and to complete the safe, accurate and appropriate assessment for the Echocardiography Laboratory. Responsible for multiple patient care, education, training, research, and safety initiatives, which are involved in effective lab functioning.

Duties

  • Supervises, organizes, assigns and distributes workload among assigned staff to ensure the department operates in a manner that is efficient, volume and outcome responsive
  • Coaches and mentors assigned staff and students to foster a positive atmosphere that supports team building, collaboration and shared learning
  • Facilitates improving processes/procedures and an efficient and effective working environment
  • Assumes overall responsibility includes the day to day planning and directing for efficient and effective operation of the Echo lab
  • Demonstrates leadership in clinical practice and education
  • Participates in professional development, teaching/educational activities, safety, and quality improvement programs to ensure excellence in the provision of services
  • Ensures maintenance of continuous Quality Assurance throughout the lab, evaluates lab staff and students, organizes workloads and schedules, ensures appropriate emergency and preventative maintenance on instrumentation and completes all associated administrative documentation for these functions
  • Communicates and disseminates relevant information to team members and management personnel in a timely and consistent manner
  • Ensures responsible, knowledgeable and competent patient care occurs in all procedures and that optimal resource utilization is maintained
  • Performs cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested e.g. shares the duties of a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer as time permits and schedule necessitates (Echocardiography procedures)
  • Observes, understands and ensures compliance with Hospital and department policies and procedures; adheres to Hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality; works in compliance of the Occupational Health & Safety Act in a timely manner

Qualifications

  • At minimum, three (3) year recent related experience in Echocardiography in a hospital setting required
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Completion of a recognized post diploma Cardiovascular Principles and Instrumentation (C.P.I.) program with a specialty in Adult Echocardiography (A.E.) required
  • Completion of a Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) program, Level II Basic Rescuer certification required
  • Registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO) required
  • Registration with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and/or Sonographer Canada required
  • Strong leadership, communication, and listening to detail skills required
