PLEASE NOTE: This is for a relief, on-call position.

BGC Weston Mount Dennis & Lawrence Heights Club serves children and youth in the Weston Mount Dennis/ Lawrence Heights and surrounding communities providing social, physical, educational, creative, seasonal, and community support programs. We are looking for motivated people to facilitate our afterschool children's' program for the 2024-2025 school year for children ranging in age from 4 - 12 years old.

Responsibilities:

  • Program Planning and Delivery:
    • Coordinate the planning and execution of the After-School Program for children and youth, ensuring alignment with Ontario's After School Program Guidelines for 2024/2025.
    • Develop and implement engaging physical education, recreational, and nutrition activities that cater to diverse learning styles and enhance participant development.
    • Plan, organize, and lead activities for children aged 4 to 12 years, ensuring they are safe, age-appropriate, inclusive, and skill-based.
  • Stakeholder and Partner Engagement:
    • Identify and establish connections with local stakeholders and partners to enhance program delivery and community involvement.
  • Supervision and Safety:
    • Supervise participants to promote safety, respect, conflict resolution, leadership, and life skills.
    • Ensure the safety and security of participants at all times, including maintaining health and safety standards, especially in food handling and preparation.
    • Respond to critical incidents in accordance with the Club's policies and procedures.
  • Staff and Volunteer Coordination:
    • Coordinate the participation of staff, volunteers, and placement students, fostering their contributions and ensuring they adhere to program standards.
    • Participate in staff training and orientation sessions to ensure all team members are equipped to fulfill their roles effectively.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Maintain accurate records and statistics, including weekly member attendance, and complete program reports, surveys, and interviews as per organizational guidelines.
    • Manage program materials, equipment, and resources, ensuring all supplies are in safe working condition and properly secured.
  • Communication and Relationship Management:
    • Liaise with parents/guardians on issues relevant to their children's participation and address any concerns promptly.
    • Maintain professional relationships with peers, members, volunteers, parents, and the public.
  • Policy Enforcement and Conflict Resolution:
    • Enforce program policies and procedures, initiating disciplinary actions when necessary.
    • Handle conflicts and behavior management immediately using corrective techniques as discussed in training.
  • Other Duties:
    • Complete additional tasks as assigned by the Program Coordinators and/or Community Directors.
    • Adapt to varying schedules, including after-school hours, PA Days, and occasional evenings for special events or training.
  • Health and Safety Compliance:
    • Adhere to Health & Safety standards, including the Club's Covid-19 Safety Protocols, to ensure a safe environment for all participants.


Qualifications:

  • Educational background applicable to the position.
  • Experience working with children 4 to 12 years old.
  • Strong skills in one or more of the following areas: sports, arts, recreation, education, health and nutrition.
  • Ability to work as team members in a dynamic, complex environment.
  • Strong supervision and program planning skills
  • Good decision making and problem solving skills
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification. (Mandatory)
  • Police Reference Check (to be completed upon hiring)
  • HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development training (asset)
