Department: Clinical and Organizational Ethics
Reports to: Senior Director
Hours: 37.5 Hours weekly
Shifts: 5 shifts per week
Status: Temporary Full-Time ( one year )
Closing Date: November 22, 2024

The UHN Clinical and Organizational Ethics Fellow will be part of a dedicated team which provides comprehensive ethics support to the entire UHN community. Under the mentorship of UHN bioethicists, the UHN Clinical and Organizational Ethics Fellow will assist in the provision of guidance and ethical support to patients, families and teams across all of UHN's hospitals. This is a corporate UHN role and not confined to only one site. The UHN Clinical and Organizational Ethics Fellow is also a clinical learner role, and the Fellow will be expected to commit to learning, and to develop competency in key healthcare ethics domains through preceptorship and other learning modalities.

  • Under supervision, provides consultation on clinical, organizational, and research ethics issues
  • Under supervision, provides assistance in the development of policies and guidelines related to ethical issues
  • Supports research and research review, and initiates and participates in a variety of ethics-related educational initiatives. Progress towards proficiency in ethics consultation competencies, in accordance with ASBH's current Core Competencies
  • Commitment to learning opportunities, including UHN and external training modules, seminars and conferences.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in an academic or professional discipline with preference given to candidates with terminal degrees in bioethics, philosophy, theology, nursing, behavioral sciences, social sciences, medicine or law.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and powers of discernment
  • Strong oral communication skills
  • Commitment to inter-professional teamwork (both in leadership and non-leadership capacities)
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities
