Clinical Manager PACU Trauma, Neurosurgery & Critical Care (Job ID: 9537)
St. Michael's Hospital is currently recruiting for a Clinical Leader/Manager for the Perioperative Program. The position will be of interest to a dynamic results-oriented individual who will demonstrate a leadership style which is visionary, creative and collaborative to fill the role of Clinical Leader Manager, and who can demonstrate an appreciation for and commitment to the mission and values of St. Michaels Hospital. In this pivotal role, you will draw upon your team building and change management skills to lead a multi-disciplinary team in advancing patient care initiatives. The Clinical Leader/Manager will provide contemporary leadership and direction for the Post Anesthetic Care Unit, Pre-Anesthesia Assessment Clinic and Surgical Day Care Units.
As the CLM, you will be ultimately responsible for the seamless integration of new models of patient care delivery while ensuring that roles, responsibilities and functions continue to evolve to meet changing corporate needs. You will be accountable for the quality of patient care, utilization of resources, professional practice and an academic focus, and for developing innovative, team-based approaches to the day-to-day management of the area and to the delivery of service. While the main focus of this position is at the operational management level, the Clinical Leader/Manager will also participate actively in program specific and hospital-wide initiatives through committee and task force membership, hospital planning and management forums as well as work collaboratively with community partners on various initiatives and projects.
As a member of the Perioperative/Leadership Team, you will:
- Provide leadership in the management of the three units human and financial resources including leading practice utilization of resources
- Work in collaboration with physicians and other perioperative leaders to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of patient care services across the program and the organization.
- Develop, implement and manage short- and long term goals of the units and the program aligned to the corporate strategic directions.
- Draw upon team-building and change management skills to lead the interdisciplinary team.
- Be ultimately responsible for the seamless integration of new models of patient care delivery within the Pre-Anaesthesia Assessment Clinic, Post Anesthesia Care Unit and the Surgical Day Care Units within the program while ensuring that roles, responsibilities and functions continue to evolve to meet changing corporate needs.
- Be accountable for the quality of patient care, staff development and professional practice and for developing innovative, team-based approaches to the day-to-day management of the units
Be accountable for the development, implementation and management of quality improvement initiatives to ensure best possible care and outcomes. - Demonstrate patient/family focused care within perioperative practice.
- Develop and foster positive internal and external relationships with clients, programs, community partners and service providers.
- Participate actively in program specific and hospital wide initiatives through committee and task force membership, hospital planning and management forums.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Evidence of certification with the College of Nurses.
- An undergraduate degree in Nursing/related health care area, required.
- A Masters degree in Nursing or related health care area is required.
- Completed of BLS program, Level II: Basic Rescuer certification required.
- Specific knowledge and experience related to the clinical activities of pre-anesthesia assessment, peri-anesthesia care/post-operative recovery room care and /or critical care required.
- Strong teaching and adult learning skills required.
- Demonstrated commitment to the visions, goals, missions and values of the Hospital.
- Demonstrated clinical leadership and management skills.
- Proven success in providing inspirational leadership in a team environment and ability to encourage innovation, decision making and creativity among staff and physicians.
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills with the ability to analyze and utilize clinical and management data for planning purposes and program development and evaluation.
- Strong organizational skills, able to manage competing priorities and balance multiple, disparate tasks.
- Proven experience as a clinical resource/expert for staff and demonstrated success in leadership of a multidisciplinary team in their professional and interdependent practice.
- Demonstrated success in leading health care professionals in a self directed environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to deal effectively in a team environment including group facilitation, mediation, team building and conflict resolution skills.
- Proven experience developing policies and developing and implementing education plans for nurses and multidisciplinary staff.
- Exemplary partnership, consensus building, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
- Commitment to evidence based practice and continuous professional development.
- Experience working and managing staff within a unionized environment required
- Previous project management experience and ability to facilitate groups an asset.
Previous experience and knowledge of process mapping and implementing LEAN methods within a department is an asset
