Salary: $32.82 per hour (To commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy)

Position Summary
The Critical Care Department at Toronto General Hospital is seeking a Clinical Research Analyst (CRA) to support a grant-funded clinical trial. The CRA will be involved in all aspects of study start-up including preparing Research Ethics Board and regulatory applications and liaising with both internal and external study partners. In addition, the CRA will also be responsible for assisting with daily study activities including recruiting patients, obtaining consent, and collecting data. The CRA will have essential knowledge of clinical research principles and practice as well as research regulations and guidelines, such as ICH/GCP guidelines, Tri-Council Policy, Declaration of Helsinki, FDA CFR and Health Canada TPD. In addition, the CRA will be supported by a Clinical Research Coordinator II in the Critical Care Unit. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about having meaningful interactions with patients and their caregivers.

Duties:

  • Coordinates the submission process for Research Ethics Board and regulatory (i.e., Health Canada) applications, ensuring all study activities comply with relevant guidelines
  • Assists in the recruitment of study participants (e.g., identifies and screens potential subjects; obtains informed consent; maintains ongoing communication)
  • Assists in the planning, implementation, review and coordination of all aspects of data collection and source documentation, as per UHN policy and ICH/GCP guidelines
  • Reports any study related abnormalities as per defined parameters (e.g., approved protocol or documented investigator instructions ) to MD or health care team member
  • Interacts with participants to facilitate the completion of required research activities as per protocol and in collaboration with inter-professional team members, as needed
  • Assists in coordination of patient visits and schedule as per study protocol
  • Liaises with internal and external study partners and maintains effective working relationships with all parties

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or recognized equivalent, in a health or science-related discipline
  • 1 to 2 years clinical and/or professional experience (at least 1 year of clinical research experience preferred)
  • Certification as a Clinical Research Professional is an asset
  • Demonstrated relevant knowledge of clinical research and of human research regulations and guidelines of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
  • Knowledge of research regulations and guidelines (such as ICH/GCP, Tri-Council Policy, Declaration of Helsinki, FDR, CFR and Health Canada TPD as required)
  • Experience coordinating Health Canada-regulated trials and providing support for monitoring/audits and regulatory inspections is preferred
  • Experience working with patients or participants in a research environment
  • Excellent decision-making skills with the ability to form/defend independent judgments and to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations
  • Effective organizational and interpersonal skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively and demonstrates composure under pressure/stressful conditions and to meet multiple and competing deadlines
  • Excellent competency in written and verbal communications with different stakeholders (e.g., patients, health care providers, sponsors)
