Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7.5 hour shifts
Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN), part of Ontario Health, is responsible for the coordination of organ and tissue donation and transplantation in Ontario. Our mandate includes increasing public awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation, education of health care professionals, and ensuring a safe and effective donation and transplant system in Ontario. The Clinical Specialist - Organ is responsible for the provision of clinical orientation (teaching and on the job training) for Provincial Resource Centre (PRC) Organ and Surgical Recovery clinical roles (CSC, RTC, and SRC). The Clinical Specialist – (Organ) is responsible for conducting individual and group level needs assessments for education. The Clinical Specialist –Organ) identifies, develops and implements educational programming based on the needs assessments. The Clinical Specialist –Organ provides project management support to the Director, Transplant Services to ensure new initiatives affecting PRC Organ and Surgical Recovery practices are supported from an educational perspective
Here is what you will be doing:
Provides leadership, education and training for PRC Organ staff for all aspects of Provides leadership, education and training for PRC-Organ and Surgical Recovery staff for all aspects of professional clinical practice
Provides project management support for the PRC, to ensure delivery of projects are supported from an education perspective.
Works collaboratively with internal and external partners to identify and implement process related educational improvement activities/initiatives.
Provides mentorship and coaching to PRC Organ staff.
Collaborates with the Manager PRC – Organ and the Manager – Surgical Recovery to develop training for any and all of the following for the purposes of professional development and initiatives which focus on best processes and practices:
the implementation of new systems, procedures, processes, and tools
identified areas of improvement (process, tool, system or otherwise)
identified skill gaps / areas for competency improvement within the team
best practices in donor case management
Oversees the annual competency review process (for clinical competencies; reviews via the functional template) for PRC-Organ and PRC-Surgical Recovery staff.
Reviews processes on an ongoing basis to identify any areas of improvement in workflow within the PRC, or opportunities to support/implement initiatives related to organ allocation aimed at increasing organ yield.
Subject matter expert for workflow related design and workflow related education for both iTransplant and OATS database.
Ensures staff are utilizing both iTransplant and OATS database effectively for the accurate collection of data.
Manages educational related project tasks; ensuring PRC staff affected by projects are informed and aware of changes.
Works collaboratively with others, identifying action items and involving front-line staff in the development of project related education to increase user acceptance of changes.
Identifies potential risks (clinical, or otherwise) and escalates
Works with members of the education, hospital programs, tissue, quality, and IT departments to gather information relevant for PRC Organ staff training or re-training.
Develops re-education initiatives related to quality investigations, inspections, and identified ongoing workflow concerns.
Utilizes research and evidence-based practices to develop new practices and procedures. new practices and procedures
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in health science required, with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred
Master’s level preparation in Education and/or Nursing and formal training in adult education an asset
Minimum five (5) years of recent experience in organ donation or a combination of relevant experience and education
Demonstrated experience in the development and delivery of educational materials
Demonstrated experience in leading educational initiatives preferred
Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize
Proven communication and interpersonal skills, including an ability to work effectively with people at all levels
Organized, with strong attention to detail and adaptable to change
Computer literate
Expert working knowledge of TOTAL and iTransplant functionality
Rate of Pay: $82, 793.37 - $103, 492.28 per annum
