Job Description

The Director, Academic Business Development is accountable for the identification, creation, development, and delivery of academic program opportunities to expand the impact of Michener across the healthcare system in Ontario and beyond. Encompassing product management, strategic partnerships, ideation, and program management delivery systems & processes, this role creates and enables innovative programming to meet the education and training needs of the healthcare system, enhancing partner engagement, and achieving Michener UHN growth targets

Responsibilities

  • Partnership development across a diverse set of stakeholders, including UHN colleagues and entities, government ministries, funding agencies and other partners
  • Create innovative programming for the Michener Institute to deliver in service to the healthcare system, and lead the associated product management and program management processes
  • Achieve Michener revenue and growth targets, enabling reinvestment for future programming
  • Develop and execute strategic business development plans to expand the client partnership base
  • Develop new markets and business opportunities, leveraging creativity, relationships, and collaboration to invent meaningful Michener programming
  • Ensure programming opportunities enable social enterprise and social good needs through education and training
  • Own the opportunities funnel and associated product management and project management processes, from ideation to program roll-out, building deep collaborative relationships
  • Identify new partnership channels of opportunity and activities, and organize the business development activities to leverage these channels for current and future programming
  • Provide ongoing consultation and support to ensure client partner satisfaction, and manage new initiatives and programs until they transition to the appropriate academic delivery model
  • Maintain accurate forecasts and insights on ecosystem requirements, trends, and risks

Qualifications

We recognize there may be several career pathways to a leadership role in business development, and we are seeking breadth and depth across at least one of these qualifying areas:

  • at least 8 years experience in business development, sales, partnerships, grants, and / or fundraising
  • at least 5 years experience in healthcare, building relationships focused on meeting system needs and complex problem-solving
  • at least 5 years experience in post-secondary education, leading business development, partnerships, or academic program delivery to learners in an accredited environment

In addition, experience demonstrating the following skills is an asset:

  • Outstanding communication skills, including writing clearly and concisely, and business development presentation skills
  • Expertise in sales budgeting and reporting
  • Contract negotiation focused on win-win and social good needs
  • Client base management and new client acquisition
  • Ability to surface and understand pain points to create product solutions to meet objectives
  • Expertise in leveraging market data, research, and other relationship sources to identify new opportunities
  • Strong business acumen, decision-making, and strategic account management skills
  • Familiarity with structured methodologies for business development in complex environments like healthcare
  • Successful engagement with decision-makers and influencers across large organizations and institutions
