We have pioneered many successful fundraising programs, including our world-leading Princess Margaret Home Lottery, and some of the world's largest peer-to-peer cancer fundraising events, and have sophisticated Major & Transformational Gifts and Estates & Gift Planning programs.

Now we are seeking a strategic, creative and collaborative people leader who is adept in donor relations and will partner with a diverse team of 30+ communications, stewardship and fundraising professionals in achieving their ambitious goals as we plan a historic, comprehensive fundraising campaign for The Princess Margaret.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Donor Experience and Stewardship, the Director, Donor Recognition and Stewardship will be responsible for building and leading a team of donor relations professionals that deliver best-in class recognition and stewardship experiences. The Director will partner with key counterparts across the Foundation to support collaborative and impactful opportunities that help elevate achievement and results in major, transformational and estate giving across the organization.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, execute, and continuously improve a world-class donor experience strategy at the major ($50k to $4.9M+) and transformational ($5M+) donor level
  • Assess, design, and evaluate an ambitious program of stewardship and recognition, including a review of the effectiveness of current efforts and where development and implementation of new programs would be most beneficial, including the expansion and diversification of physical and virtual recognition in preparation for a comprehensive fundraising campaign
  • Build upon programming and strategy for The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation's Till & McCulloch Society (recognizes donors who have cumulatively donated $1 million or more) including welcoming new members, providing first-to-know updates and unique engagement opportunities
  • Manage a portfolio of personalized stewardship plans and oversee stewardship account management, directing work across the team
  • Support the gift agreement process including acting as the team's key liaison for the review and approval process, and monitoring agreements to ensure fulfillment and alignment with donor intent
  • Collaborate with the Donor Experience and Events team and fundraisers to design, plan, and execute donor stewardship and recognition events
  • Enhance internal processes regarding donor management and communications from gift acknowledgment through to stewardship, and ensure the team executes all activities in a timely fashion and as required, in active partnership with the rest of the Foundation
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, standards and processes within Stewardship and Recognition.
  • Track and report on the impact of stewardship and recognition activities, reporting results and evaluating new opportunities
  • Provide mentorship, coaching and professional development opportunities to team members including conducting performance evaluations that address team members' needs

Qualifications

What you bring:

  • A senior-level professional with a minimum of 7 years of experience preferably in a stewardship and/or donor relations-focused role
  • Experience developing successful stewardship and recognition programs at the major ($100k to $1M+) and transformational ($5M+) donor level
  • Outstanding people leadership, mentorship, coaching, and team building abilities, and a minimum 3 years of experience managing employees
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of fundraising activities, donor motivations, donor stewardship best practices, and donor accountability
  • Strong writing, critical thinking, and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strategic thinker, with strong conflict-resolution skills and a strong sense of diplomacy
  • Strong project management skills in order to manage a multitude of projects under tight deadlines
  • A commitment to excellence and quality assurance including exceptional reviewing and copy-editing skills
  • Experience working with Blackbaud CRM or Raiser's Edge
  • High proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), project management tools (Asana), design tools such as InDesign and experience using platforms like ThankView an asset

  • Understanding of and experience in the healthcare fundraising environment and experience on a comprehensive healthcare fundraising campaign is preferred but not a requirement
