We have pioneered many successful fundraising programs, including our world-leading Princess Margaret Home Lottery, and some of the world's largest peer-to-peer cancer fundraising events, and have sophisticated Major & Transformational Gifts and Estates & Gift Planning programs.

Now we are seeking a strategic, creative and collaborative people leader who is adept in donor experiences and events and will partner with a diverse team of 30+ stewardship, communications and fundraising professionals in achieving their ambitious goals as we plan a historic, comprehensive fundraising campaign for The Princess Margaret.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Donor Experience and Stewardship, the Director, Donor Experience and Events will be responsible for building and leading a team of event professionals that deliver best-in class stewardship, recognition and cultivation events, as well as curated experiences, for major, transformational and estate giving donors and prospects. These events recognize and engage donors and prospective donors, typically at the $1M+ giving level, and include but are not limited to annual awards, Centre openings, tours, Chair/Professorship/Fellowship celebrations, space dedications, recognition society-specific events, annual lunches/dinners and virtual/livestream programming. The Director will partner with key counterparts across the Foundation to support collaborative and impactful opportunities that help elevate achievement and results in major, transformational and estate giving across the organization.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, execute, and continuously improve a world-class donor stewardship and cultivation events strategy at the major ($50k to $4.9M+) and transformational ($5M+) donor level
  • Build a Donor Events team which delivers a portfolio of innovative and meaningful events that foster deeper engagement among major, transformational and estate giving donors with The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation
  • Lead and manage all aspects of donor cultivation, recognition and stewardship events from concept to execution including:
    • Development of compelling event concepts, themes and formats in collaboration with internal stakeholders including the senior leadership team, fundraisers and stewardship team
    • Identification, coordination and management of event speakers, presenters and special guests
    • Development of supporting event materials including briefing notes, speaking notes and workback schedules
  • In collaboration with fundraisers, effective manage and support campaign volunteers, including Campaign Cabinet and Board members, ensuring their active involvement and engagement in donor events.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of event collateral including external communications, invitations and presentations in collaboration with the Marketing and Creative Department
  • Manages venue and vendor partnerships including negotiating contracts to ensure favourable pricing
  • Develop and maintain event budgets and oversee financial reporting to internal departments
  • Oversee post-event activities including event debrief meetings, constituent follow up activities and reporting on the impact of each event
  • Offer subject matter expertise in event design, management and execution across the foundation
  • Provide mentorship, coaching and professional development opportunities to team members including conducting performance evaluations that address team members' needs

Qualifications

  • A senior-level professional with a minimum of 7 years of experience preferably in a non-profit events role
  • Demonstrated experience delivering innovative and impactful donor events at different scales
  • Outstanding people leadership, mentorship, coaching, and team building abilities, and a minimum 3 years of experience managing employees
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of fundraising activities, donor motivations, donor stewardship best practices, and donor accountability
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strategic thinker, with strong conflict-resolution skills and a strong sense of diplomacy
  • Strong project management skills in order to manage a multitude of projects under tight deadlines
  • A commitment to excellence, quality assurance and process improvement
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, late evenings and occasional weekends due to the nature of events
  • High proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), project management tools (Asana)
  • Strong alignment with the values of Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence

  • Understanding of and experience in the healthcare fundraising environment and experience on a comprehensive healthcare fundraising campaign is preferred but not a requirement
