Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: Commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN compensation policy
Status: Permanent Full-Time

Position Summary

The Discipline Head - Speech Language Pathology supports academic practice and is the point of contact for the Speech Language Pathologists and Communicative Disorders Assistants. This role represents the professions at the Professional Advisory Committee, other UHN committees and working groups as required. The Discipline Head ensures any current or new regulatory standards are implemented and works with the team to set standards for the profession.

Duties

  • Design, develop, implement, and communicate profession standards and competencies to support profession-specific practice and documentation, aligning with best practices, legislative and professional requirements, as well as UHN's mission and goals
  • Implement quality indicators and monitoring
  • Support the profession in working to its full scope, and where appropriate, the advanced scope of practice
  • Influence Speech Language Pathology policy and practice
  • Create opportunities to build research and education capacity
  • Facilitate, participate or lead quality improvement and evidence-based research related practice to improve patient care outcomes
  • Establish collaborative linkages with stakeholders in education, research and practice
  • Lead to ensure the profession meets its commitments for clinical education of learners within the context of practice and care at UHN
  • Consult on care delivery model
  • Lead practice orientation processes, develop and implement Novice to Expert framework to as well as enable ongoing professional development
  • Support UHN Strategic Goals related to speech therapy practice

Qualifications

  • Registration as a Speech Language Pathologist with the College of Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario
  • At least three (3) years' experience as a Speech Language Pathologist
  • Comprehensive understanding of regulatory standards and legislation related to speech language pathology practice
  • Strong clinician with demonstrated ability to transform and engage the team
  • Strong skills in identifying practice issues and collaboratively problem solving
  • Ability to implement quality improvement projects, facilitate knowledge translation and understanding of project management principles
  • Skills in creating an environment that is collaborative, interprofessional and accountable, partnering with patients and caregivers
  • Exceptional decision-making capabilities, collaboration, as well as facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent facilitation skills with an ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders with different opinions
  • Previous leadership experience an asset
