St. Joseph's Health Centre is looking to recruit a Sonographer Educator to join our wonderful team. We are located in the West end, within walking distance of beautiful High Park, Lake Ontario and the Martin Goodman Trail. We are easily accessible by TTC and the Gardiner Expressway, and have onsite monthly or day pass parking at a reasonable rate.

We service a busy emergency department, adult and neonatal intensive care units and a large walk-in pediatric clinic, enabling you to hone your skills in acute care imaging.

The Medical Education Specialist's prime responsibilities include the coordination, education and supervision of ultrasound students. The successful candidate must correlate the didactic instruction provided by the program with training provided at the clinical site and evaluate students on an on-going basis to ensure students meet program requirements.
The Medical Education Specialist will also have service responsibility and must maintain clinical expertise, including the ability to mentor and provide remedial training for current Sonographers. They will be responsible for consulting with all levels of clinical staff, in order to effectively interface the activities of the student with the work of the clinical department.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs diagnostic ultrasound exams, participating in the daily workload of patients.
- Reports, reviews and records findings of ultrasound exams to provide accurate patient diagnosis.
- Participates in the coordination, education and teaching of ultrasound students.
- Plans and implements the clinical program in coordination with the Academic Institution.
- Performs assessments and evaluations of students in coordination with the Academic Institution.
- Participates in the education of scanning techniques with Radiology Residents as required.
- Assists radiologists with special procedures performed under ultrasound guidance.
- Operates and provides continuous maintenance of ultrasound equipment via participation in Quality Control and Quality Assurance tests.
- Provides optimum patient care and demonstrates a professional manner in the work setting.
- Participates in the coordination of daily work including the prioritization of work.
- Actively participates in team building concepts, and development of departmental goals.
- Leads ultrasound department educational program and policy or protocol updates
- Maintains awareness of Sonography trends, updating Radiologists and Sonographers as needed
- Participates in the orientation of new Sonographers.
- Must be able to work independently and without supervision.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Operations Leader in Ultrasound and the Medical Imaging Management Team
- Assist the ultrasound Operations Leader with scheduling and daily departmental tasks
- Provide vacation coverage for Ultrasound Operations Leader
- Available all shifts
- Other Duties as assigned
Qualifications Include:
- Current registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario.
- Minimum of five years' experience in a hospital environment as a Sonographer required.
- Previous teaching experience and clinical preceptor certificate preferred.
- Experience in a leadership role an asset.
- Sonography Canada membership preferred.
- Teaching, preceptor and evaluation/assessment courses preferred.
